Hi Moms,

Who was /is your OB at B&W and would you recommend them?
I found out that a very popular doctor at one of the most popular groups (that takes 6 months to get in, IF you get in) has 3 malpractice settlements under her name. Should I be discouraged by this?

Thanks very much!

What can I do next?

I did my own pregnancies through BI and was very happy there but when I was a gestational carrier, I went to the biological mother's OB/GYN at B&W. The practice was New England OB/GYN at One Brookline Place and the doctor was Alice Vincent. We had a very easy twin pregnancy and I was satisfied with the care we received. At the delivery, she really came through for us and let me continue to push baby B out because I was adamant about not wanting a c-section. He took 40 minutes of pushing because he was sunny side up and with another patient, she may have gone to a c-section but she knew my wishes and respected them and let those weigh heavily in the decision, which a lot of doctors don't do. If you want any more info, PM me. There was another doc in the same practice whose name I can't remember who delivered my friend's children and I really liked her bedside manner when we had appointments with her. Good luck!

I was also at NE OG Gyn with Vivian Hernandez although she was not the one who delivered me (you get who's on call when you go into labor). I felt very comfortable with all of the OBs in that group.

My Dr. is Todd Shapiro out of the BI and I ADORE him. I don't know if he's taking new patients.

Also, OBs are sued all-the-time. It's why their malpractice insurance is so high. I'm not sure I'm let it be the only deciding factor, if you otherwise really like that doctor.

Good luck.

A doctor friend once told me that in a pediatric malpractice suit, every doctor who has ever treated the patient gets added to the list - all the way back to the OB! He said that's why malpractice insurance is so high, and it made him give up pediatrics. Maybe someone else can confirm whether this is true... but in any case, just because a doctor has a few malpractice settlements, doesn't necessarily mean s/he is a bad doctor.

Yes, any doctor that has a malpractice settlements I would not go to. This doctor has 3. Run far far away. Just because a doctor is popular does not mean they are good when it comes to labor and delivery. Find a midwife.
