I was going to do the 21 day jump start vegan diet. My husband is going to join my in my new exercise plan. I don't feel ready for this (the food part). For one I have not been to the grocery store yet, I have not done any meal planning. Also, my husband does not want to do the 21 days of vegan so that means I have to cook different for everyone in the house. in addition my vegan sister, glutten free mother, will be here as my diet finishes so i will still be needing to be cooking vegan just as I'm dying for some cheese. I could just go to straight calorie counting (which always works well for me). Guess I"m just feeling there are obstacles and I don't' feel motivated to power through them. However, if I don't commit to some peramiters, i may just continue to indulge in sweats, fatty foods and alcohol as I have been doing all month. I don't want to be stuck in that rut any longer. Okay, so what are you doing to get back on the healthy track today (and for the foreseeable future?) I need some inspiration.
Portion control and exercise. I've tried Atkins, Jenny Craig, NutriSystems, etc. and nothing has worked long term. As soon as I go on a "diet" all I do is crave the foods I can't have. This time I'm not going to say I can't eat any certain foods, just cut down on the junk, eat healthier, and watch the portions. Good luck to all of us :)

Maybe what you're attempting is just too radical? I'm thinking it might be better, more positive and encouraging to start with some small baby steps that are easy to incorporate into your days? Ex: Daily walk or trip to the gym, no prepared foods, etc rather than start a vegan diet that requires meal planning and your husband's carnivorous options, etc.
I'm not setting myself up for radical change as of Jan 1st. Slow, steady progress is better. I've already traveled down the Resolution Boulevard of Broken Dreams a time or two! LOL
Good luck!

my blood sugar hit a new high today.....& I only checked it, because I felt dizzy. It's not an outrageous #, simply my highest ever. :(
My body has always run a little high, just at the borderline. I had gestational diabetes, & am PCOS. I knew I was high risk for diabetes, & have been running "close" for years now. My # today explains my level of tiredness....
Sooo, as of today, I am back on the "diabetes" diet. I'll count my carbs, up my intake of vegies & healthy meat.....& limit my sweets & fruits. I can do this, just have to be dedicated. I also need to start moving more! I also know this is the culmination of being a slug the past 7 months. I went from having bronchitis twice....to 2 months of battling mono....to a shoulder injury....& then a knee injury. Sucky, but oh well. :)
Time to put ME first.....Good Luck! & I hope you're a loser! :) That's my goal.....

You can do it!! We started yesterday but are starting small because I, like you, was going to do a very restrictive cleanse and decided I would probably fail. SO... starting yesterday we started baby step #1.... No alcohol, no red meat, no processed sugar. We will do that for a week and then add in no dairy (which will be hardest for me) and no wheat (bread is what kills me in the weight dept). We are keeping the no alcohol for a month and going to try to stick to the "diet" indefinitely although I know I will have to have a little dairy because I love my sour cream. :) Also we are drinking 2 cups of green tea a day and then working up to 4 cups a day. You can do it and you will feel so much better!!! :) I felt like our eating and drinking had gotten out of control the last few weeks... being on the road and eating fast food, plates upon plates of cookies and sweets, drinking frequently (not that much quantity wise but enough to trigger a munchie attack)... We needed to get back on track BAD. Even though we are only one day in I swear I already feel better.
PS Beth I wish I could apply that but it has been 85 degrees here in So Cal the last week, lol. Guess I have no excuse.

I will not start a diet until spring for the simple fact that as mammals our bodies naturally store up and want to keep more fat on them in the winter because it's cold.
It's hard for people to loose weight in the winter because of this and then they get discouraged. I'm going to avoid the discouragement and wait until spring when it's easier to burn fat.

i did the vegatarian diet for a few weeks to jump start weight loss all the time. I didn't do vegan though and I'd occasionally chheat with fries, sicne they're a vegtable but still always lost 5-7 lbs in a week and i'm not in the overwight category...after that 5-7 lbs i always plateaued (sp) then J. concentrated on exercising, since by then my portion sizes would be on track from the diet and then i'd J. eat normally but smaller portions

I didn't start a strict diet today - but I did start cutting portion sizes and watching my diet/making better choices. I also joined myfitnessplan.com, it looks so awesome! It has an automatic food / calorie tracker plus you can put in your weight and set goals for youself. It looks really cool. After signing up I was already more motivated to eat better.

I started my diet just after Halloween. I lost 21 pounds as of the 30th of December. (The New Years party killed my diet.)
I'm re-starting my diet again today. I hope to loose 29 more pounds by the 30th of June.
I hope to have to wear artifical plump pillow to play Santa Claus for Christmas 2012.
One thing that helped me was to watch skinny people eat. I try and imitate them and that has helped.
Good luck to you and yours.

My husband just started some wackadoo diet yesterday where he can only drink fresh-squeezed fruit juice for 3 days. Then after that he can have eggs for a few days. I'm not sure what happens after that. It sounds crazy so I kind of tuned out. Bottom line, he is totally cranky right now and driving me nuts.
