All the "hope and change" that we've experienced this past term has got me hoping for a change.

But let's not forget to pay attention to who we vote for in congress, too.

I'm voting for Obama.
Mainly because I simply don't understand the entire Republican platform.

They're for "smaller government" until it comes to issues like abortion and gay marriage...in which case they'd rather the government step in and make some rules around what I can do with my body, etc...

So I cannot, in good conscience, ever vote for a party that wants to take my personal choices away from me.

Before you wonder if it's worth your time, let me tell you - back in 2000, a nurse became a whistle blower about what was happening in Illinois at that time with babies who lived through abortions. (They were being thrown in the trash. Sometimes crying for hours from the trash.) This came before our lawmakers then. This legislation passed in the US sentate with 100 percent YES. EXCEPT for one person - you guessed it, against it 3 times. So, at that time, in my opinion, he wasn't worthy of my vote. I am a parent, he is a parent - how could he? That, my friends, speaks to character and integrity. So, dem or repb, pro or against, everyone else could say this was wrong, but not BO. I am disgusted and I thought everyone else would be too, but then he was elected. Please watch the video - please disregard the title, the comments and listen to the nurse.

I am voting for Romney. Definately Republican. Why? Well, as much as Democrat's and Media like to say Republican's are evil and don't care about people - that is the opposite of the truth. Republican's statistically give more to charity and we want to give people a hand up - not a hand out - a hand up to help them achieve more in their lives. The GOP doesn't thrive on having more people on welfare - or perhaps in the chains of welfare? Also because if you look at what party has had their hand on things in the past decades, it is the deomocrats. Are they all evil? Are all Republican's good? Of course not, but party lines have fundamentally different views of the country. Republican's want everyone to prosper. Democrat's rely on welfare votes and therefore want more people on welfare (ahhem...this is not a good thing).

Now, I may lose a few of you here - but Obama has some very, very evil people backing him. I don't expect you to believe me (or even look it up for yourself because if you were that kind of a person you would never have voted for him in the first place). Look up Ayers, Soros, Jerimiah Wright, Frank Marshal Davis - heck even his grandparents and mom. They are communists trying to make USA communists. He has a fundamentally different view of how things should work. Look at all the things he has done that tromp all over our Constitution. Look at the way he doesn't put his hand over his heart during the pledge. Look at him sending back the bust of Winston Churchill to Great Britian, although it was a gift to our country. Just look for yourself instead of believing everything you read. Also, if he cared so much for the poor and down trodden, why is his brother living in abject poverty, in a slum? Why did he (RECENTLY) ask for help for medical care costs from Dinesh Desouza (and receive it), but nothing from his brother? Why? Because Obama would consider maybe helping him with YOUR tax dollars, but he isn't going to give a penny of his "own" money to help his own brother. You tell me, what kind of a man is that?

Of course I am voting for Romney, he's not perfect, but he has led a life of generosity, giving and caring - all of his life and LONG before anyone was looking. He understands how this country works and that if you or I want to start a business, we should be able to do it and thrive with it (not sink because we're now considered "weathy" due to the business running through our personal taxes). And that these small businesses are how USA succeeds. Romney knows how to balance a budget and live within his means, he's done it in all his business and personal life. Obama hasn't even tried to get a budget togteher for the whole USA!

So, you may not like Republican's...but Obama...well, you will be much better off if you vote for Romney. That is a fact. Obama doesn't want us to prosper, he wants us to be the same as villages in Africa.

I've stopped discussing politics because I've found that conservatives are happy to discuss while liberals or progressives, as they now call themselves, attack on a personal level instead of discussing.
My church community is liberal. The state where I grew up is liberal. I've found that if I want to keep my friends, I need to keep my opinions to myself.
That said, Obama is no leader. He is no businessman. He has no clue about international affairs. He needs to go away before he turns the country communist and socialist.

I am fortunate, or unfortunate, depending on how you look at it, to understand economics. Here is the thing, Democrats tend to look out for those in need and that is a good thing. The problem right now is the current administration is so wrapped up in giving it all away that they don't see that the economy must come first to pay for it all.

Perhaps Democrats really don't understand what it takes to help the economy recover, perhaps they really believe that what they are doing should have worked. The problem is innocent or not what they are doing is not working and it needs to be stopped if our economy has any chance of recovery.

So I am voting for Romney, he may not have all the answers but at least he got a running mate who knows what he doesn't. Hopefully between the two of them they can get us out of this mess.

See comments like Mira's scare me. My mother was on Medicare and my father was on Federal retirees which is what Romney proposes to switch Medicare over to. When you see the two plans side by side it is obvious that the Federal plan is much better. Sorry Mira, but I wish people would actually look at the plans, not what is being reported on them. If you want the easy way out find any retired Federal employee and ask them, they will tell you Romney's plan is better than the current plan and really, they are the people that it is effecting so shouldn't they know?

I have no idea why he won't submit his tax returns(I need to see them as much as I need to see Obama's birth certificate) but I am sure it isn't because it shows something illegal.

My children cannot afford to pay for the sky rocketing national debt. We will be facing a plummeting GDP and austerity measures just like most of Europe if we continue at this pace. Productivity needs to be rewarded - because only productivity nets tax revenue.

Here is one of my ways of making that determination:
As a government entity (or any other entity for that matter) you support/encourage the behaviors you want MORE of, and you discourage/reduce funding (which, funding is an incentive mind you) those behaviors which you want LESS of.
Let's see:
More people dependent on government subsidies, or less?
More people working for the government, or less?
More people working for private businesses, or less?
More private businesses hiring employees, or less?
More expenses/bigger government budget, or less?
People to take personal responsibility, or less?
More abortion, or less?
More people taking out loans/mortgages they can't afford, or less?
To be seen as more weak and vulnerable (internationally), or less?

The government subsidizes (gives $/entitlements to) what it wants more of and taxes (penalizes/discourages) those which it wants less of. What does Obama propose? Taxing businesses more and providing more government payouts for just about every aspect of a person's life (extending unemployment benefits over and over, for example). See how just those two work together? You tax (dis-incintivize) job creators, and pay those who don't work (unemployment benefits, free healthcare). Then you (surprise!) get HUGE numbers of unemployed... Hmm.. nobody should be surprised by the unemployment numbers, or the numbers of those no longer looking for work. The government is doing all it can to encourage people to not hire and to not work. :/

Generally, when the government stays out of the way (not subsidizing), the private market tends to find true value. What a person is willing to pay for something or a service. And people will buy that thing/service when it is affordable to them if they desire it. They will prioritize their own money. When it is someone else's money, they lose any reason to prioritize... they just start to want it ALL.

And when we apologize all over the world for anything and everything the U.S. or it's private citizens has done, we just look like idiots who are asking to be pushed around and bullied. You can carry a big stick all day long, but if everyone knows you will use it to kneel on while you apologize for them punching you... welll....

I totally agreed with Romney yesterday when he said we should not have apologized to the Muslim community when our embassy in Egypt was attacked. They see that only as a sign of weakness. Then the press turns it around to try to say he was criticizing President Obama! He was referring to the Dept. of Defense.
Besides who in their right mind would ever put themselves in the same category with Hollywood and the liberal press? If they are for something, it is rarely a good thing.

Why? Well, to name one.....I don't like the fact that our current president went to apologize to the other countries. 3. I think tax shelters and loopholes for the highest incomes (top 1 or 2 % of the population) are completely bad for the country
4. I think Obama is capable of leading us out of this recession. It took many years to get into it (and he did NOT lead us into it) and it is not going to be gotten out of in a flash. We are already making progress. Knee jerk reactions are not the way to go.
5. I want the affordable care act, AKA Obamacare to go even further. I think given a chance, that can happen. I DO NOT want it repealed.
6. I am pro gay marriage (not gay just support equal rights).
7. I am pro choice. This doesn't mean I am PRO abortion. I just think women should be able to make these choices and I do not believe a conceived child in the womb is "the exact same" as my sweet baby boy sleeping upstairs in his crib right now.

I hope Obama is re-elected. It is going to be a very tough race.

Well I'm 24 years old, Im honeslty more of a libitarian. I believe in less government, and more of Peoples Rights. So honestly I dont like either one. However in the election i will be voting for Romney. Reason why is I see Obama running us into the ground in debt. Hes never held a job to where he has had to fire people and make cuts. Romney on the other hand has ran a business. ( this country is a business) you have to make cuts, fire people. I mean look at all the things this country pays for that is not making any money and just putting us futher in debt. I fell that Romney will be able to make these cuts. And make this country the empire that it was. If we contine in this downward spirewril we will be a 3rd world country by the end of 2020!

I am voting for Mitt Romney. Republican. I do not think that Obama will be re-elected. This election will quickly turn to one of foreign policy even over the economy. On that issue he is incredibly weak and has proven time and time again his inability to represent our county effectively on the world stage. Most americans, even hardcore (older) dems, are going to really notice this in the weeks to come.
FWIW-Romney is way up in the polls if you look at LIKELY voters. Most of the polling that you have seen in the media is done with REGISTERED voters which doesn't mean squat.

Finally-why in the world that ANYONE would vote for a president that has put our country so deep in a finanacial mess and does NOT have the ability or the wherewithal to pull us out is beyond me. Even if you don't like Mitt you would really vote Obama back in? THis tells me that you all are happy with your current economic situation and are good with getting more of the same. Here's what I think. I think voters need to familiarize themselves with the issues, the party platforms and then choose. Then actually GO and VOTE!
Do your homework then vote accordingly. Ignore tha attacks, the negativity, rtc. Focus on the FACTS and the issues you find important.

Not hard at all.

I've lived under Romney as governor, and other than universal health care (on which the national Affordable Health Care was based!), it was a disaster. Almost dead last in jobs, no new businesses attracted to the state, and he was more interested in getting the job than in doing the job. He has no plan for the US - he says he has a plan but he won't say what's in it. After her left the governorship, his aides cleaned out all the hard drives and erased all the information, so there was a lot to hide obviously.

Obama has not accomplished all that he said he wanted to, but the endless filibusters in the Senate and the complete blockage of progress in the House (done by the current crop of Republicans) on top of inheriting 2 wars and the financial collapse (which was not based on Obama policies but on what was done at the end of the Bush administration) were pretty daunting. I think people who blame ANY president for EVERYTHING need to look at what was actually done by the executive branch vs. what was done by Congress.

I also look at the endorsement of Obama by Republicans like Gen. Colin Powell, and at the statesman-like way McCain handled the Libyan/Egyptian attacks rather than the way Romney used it for political gain. Romney scares me because he has offended everyone in his overseas trip, including our closest ally (Great Britain) and he shot off his mouth about Libya when he did not have the facts that national officials have. Diplomacy is the only way to peace, and he jeopardized that.

I think it's essential to base our opinions on FACTS, not on rumors or sound bites or the claims of other politicians. For example, use factcheck.org or the Congressional Budget Office which is non-partisan. So, for example, even if you call Democrats "tax and spend", federal spending has increased more under every other president in 40 years than under Obama. And contrary to one post, abortions are down. (They'll go up again if contraception is cut either through non-coverage or through cutting funds to Planned Parenthood, which Romney/Ryan promise to do. Makes zero sense.)

I am distressed about the name calling and also the throwing around of terms like "communist" and "socialist" -- I think it's essential that people know what they're talking about and really study up in a non-partisan way, knowing about civics, rather than get sucked up in the nasty rhetoric and the panic and the notion that any one person will doom the country in a few years. We've survived world wars, scandals (Watergate), government shutdowns (Gingrich), the Cuban missile crisis, assassinations (attempted and accomplished), and we will survive other things. And if we stop arguing and star communicate in a spirit of cooperation so that EVERYONE gets something of what they want and need, if we dial back the screaming and the accusations, we will rise to our highest level of accomplishment.

I'd already made my mind up, but the new "Arab Spring" facade is crumbling, and the folly of supporting radicals just because they were different from the ruling powers in the Arab world is being revealed.

I don't like Mitt Romney very much, but he is leaps and bounds better than President Obama. I can't even begin to list the many objections I have to Obama's policies. I would need an entire day to list them all.

i'd have seriously considered jon huntsman, but can't abide romney. i'm sticking with obama. and yeah, i think he's going to win.

I'm voting for Obama.

The current Republican platform will replace Medicare with a voucher system. It will take more money away from our schools, which are already flat broke. It will reduce taxes on millionaires and tax middle-class households much more highly. It will decide FOR Americans what they can do when they're pregnant, whom they can marry, etc. There is even a plank to take away our right to use birth control. Most importantly to me, the current crop of Republicans is really PROUD of the fact that they will do NOTHING whatsoever about rising sea levels and our catastrophically warming planet. This is a WWII-level challenge. We have an extraordinary opportunity to act heroically. For the coming generations, it will be too late, and their lives (and those of all living creatures) will be tragically circumscribed.

All that said, I had high hopes for Obama last time around. He hasn't necessarily lived up to those hopes, though I'm still extraordinarily proud of my country for electing him. I think the healthcare plan, flawed though it is, is a huge improvement, but I also think it was a political misstep. It exhausted his political capital and ushered in the 2010 elections. It would have been much better to deal with bankruptcy laws and the foreclosure crisis. I'm also very disappointed (pissed off, furious, etc., really) that he really did nothing to push a climate bill through. But he's still by far the better choice. I'm going to exercise my right and responsibility to vote for him.

PS. Yeah, these things are heated. But are we really all such delicate little flowers that we can't handle a disagreement among friendly strangers?

PPS. One of many things I forgot to say: Mitt et al. say they'll deal with the deficit, but their current plan spells out only tax cuts (tax cuts = loss of revenue = higher deficit). The programs they want to cut (money for poor/starving children, primarily) are such a tiny part of the federal budget, they're within the margin of error. If you care about deficits, you have to be willing to cut military spending and raise taxes. If you don't want to do those things, fine, but that means you don't care about the deficit.

PPPS. Polls indicate that Obama will most likely be reelected. Statisticians (on both sides) give him about an 80% chance, barring unforeseen developments (financial meltdown, military attack, etc.). I don't really have an opinion on this; that's just what the experts say.

PPPPS. Matt Damon? Hmmmmm. I think I'm gonna vote for Johnny Depp.

100% with Suz T. Although I’m very socially liberal, I’m always willing to listen to the other candidates and see their ideas (and open to changing my mind). When the Republican’s were choosing a candidate, I actually though that if Huntsman won (more of a moderate Republican) I would seriously consider him as an option; but from the two candidates available now, I will definitely vote for Obama, Romney can’t seem to explain how he’ll do what he says he’ll do (and it obviously didn’t work in Massachusetts) and its way to conservative on women’s issues (he wasn’t) just to please his base (among MANY other things that bother me, like opposition to the DREAM act). Romney’s choice for VP doesn’t appeal to me either, AT ALL!!!
But whomever wins will have my prayers to help him guide the country and do what’s best for all of us and the rest of the world; because if the whole world does well, so does the USA.

I'm voting for Obama, my husband is voting for Ron Paul, and my BIL is voting for Mitt Romney. LOL We are a little divided here.

I think the election will be close. My husband and I joke that, personally, we win either way. We both would rather have the independent or the Democratic nominee win, but if Romney wins then his job will be secure. He works for the military, and we all know that Romney will never touch the defense budget to keep his pockets lined.

Alright - both choices have their bad points.
But I dislike President Obama less than I dislike Romney.
He pulled us out of Iraq and is pulling us out of Afghanistan - that goes a long way to help with the budget deficit.
He's not getting us involved in more conflicts - again, our deficit can't handle it till we pay off the last 2.
He's acknowledged a problem with our health care system rather than sticking his head in the sand about it.
His solution isn't perfect but if it moves us toward a single payer system eventually at least it's a step in the right direction.
Bin Laden sleeping with the fishes is an accomplishment and terror organizations have been knocked down by several pegs.
Trickle down never trickled down and tax cuts are not stimulating our economy.
People need jobs to buy houses, but I don't think either side would ever out law off-shoring.
Off-shoring hurts us more than anyone is willing to think about.
Two terms as president are the limit.
If you REALLY want to get rid of President Obama for good - get his second term over with now so he can retire and can't come back.

Eisenhower is a republican that I could rally behind. I'm absolutely astounded by the "politics" espoused by the modern "republican" party. At some point fundamentalist right got to be synonymous with republican and it grosses me out.

The democratic party is allied with big business *almost* as much as the republicans. We can thank Clinton for NATO and the WTO. From my perspective, these trade agreements are largely responsible for the the demise of working class/middle class America...not to mention the international repercussions.

I'm not sure I'll vote. I probably will, just because Romney is down right frightening, but not because I want to throw the democrats a party.

My faith in our system is shot. I think it would take more than one amazing President to turn our boat around. Rather than count on a commander and chief to pull us out, I just try to live a life devoted to my community. I figure it's a better use of my time, and brings me (and the people around me) more joy. I get sour when I try to think in politics. Yikes, I'm such a drag in this response :-/

I'm going to do a write-in vote: I vote for Matt Damon. He's pretty to look at, and goodness knows he can't do much worse than an actual politician.

So you've gotten in heated discussions with people in real life and thought you'd bring the heat in here??? Well that seems highly illogical...

Between the 2 of them, Romney is the clear choice in my mind.

1)Obama has made negative progress on the economy - it is worse off now than 4 years ago, no matter how you measure it.

2) Fundamentally, I support the constitution and the american dream. Obama does NOT. He wants our country to model after the Europeans - and we have a clear example of where that leads us. He doesn't believe in small business, because he does not believe people can accomplish anything without help from the government. Roads do not build business and jobs, hard working people with good ideas build business.

3) I believe in debt free living. Obama is on track to generate the most debt of any president we have ever had. Yes I realize congress has a part to play in this. They are ALL failing to do their job. If they can't balance the budget, they should not get paid. That is how the real world works - you don't get compensated for failing do do your job.

4) Healthcare - we need changes in the healthcare system, but if you READ the bill, it is over 1000 pages of increased costs and less available care. The name of the game is REPEAL and REPLACE.

5) Taxes - The top 1% of income earners currently pay over 40% of all taxes. 50% of our population pay NO taxes. I think the top 1% are already paying their fair share (or more)! More taxes are not the answer. We need a constitutional tax cap, and we need to rein in the big spenders in washington. This is not an issue of lack of money, it is an issue of eliminating wasteful spending and living within our means.

6) Divide and conquer politics are driving me nuts - Obama has done more to promote class warfare, racial divide, sexism, and otherwise pit our population against each other. This is not healthy. I don't care about the pigment in your skin, the number of chromosomes you have, or what your salary is, we need to work TOGETHER or we will fall TOGETHER.

7) All politicians have issues, otherwise they would get a real job. But at least Romney is not a career politician.

I'm going to vote for whatever candidate does not give the rich a tax break, for one, and for whatever candidate is committed to doing something about health care.

I really would like to see a healthcare system where the insurance was just like our car insurance. I want Doctor's to have to compete with each other for our business, and I want to be able to call and get an actual quote for how much something is going to cost me before I do it. The current system is lining the insurance companies pockets with billions of dollars, meanwhile, I am being screwed over. I had to pay $240 the other day for my son's epipens! Ridiculous. I can't wait to see how much the visit to the allergist is going to cost me! As it is right now, it's cheaper for me to pay my midwife CASH!! Using insurance would cost me more money!!!!!!!

ROMNEY - There is no other choice. I can't understand why anyone would vote "President in training Obama" back in.

I vote for me! I don't think anyone can screw this country up anymore than it is already and I don't think anyone person can make it much better! Oh wait I dont vote for me, my main job in life is to raise and take care of my offspring, so I vote for my husband, oh wait if I vote for him then he wont have time to take care of me, umm let me see, I got it!! I got it!!! I vote for my cat!

I just don't know anymore. After this latest incident at the U.S. Embassy, I want someone who can stand up , not just sit down and look pretty. Someone who can make a difference, a change. Right now, I don't see either one in that chair. Maybe that's why Eastwood was talking to it.

I agree political and religious discussions can get heated. So I also decline to partake in these discussions.

OOO btw we do not vote in the president. The electoral college does, we do vote in senators and congressmen and state and local officials. That is why the United States is a republic and not a democracy.

I can't vote for either one & feel good about it, so I'm choosing not to vote. At the end of the day, most politicians are good at lip service & not at following through. I'd rather not be part of it.

You want more jobs? Tell the CEOs to take a pay cut & spread the surplus around within their companies to create new jobs for the "average" person. No ONE person can create jobs & save the economy. It's just not going to happen.

I think Obama's going to win, and I'm not voting, because I'm frankly sickened with politics right now. The two parties absolutely disgust me. Both have no idea what they believe in any more, they're more concerned about tearing down the other. Let's face it, neither one of them will keep their promises, it's congress that really matters, and they're the ones that are messing everything up, so... yeah.

Trick Question: Because in the DOZENS of elections I've voted on, each and every single one of my HUNDREDS of votes has lost.

It's durn near Guinness.

And we're not talking I'm voting for the 'issues' candidate, or anything. 2 solid candidates, and I can curse one of them. 10 candidates, I can vote for the front runner... and they're toast.

So... if I vote... I vote for whomever I want to lose.

And, yes. The trend holds. If I vote for you, you will lose. (I tested this when I liked both candidates)
