Which Sonicare Toothbrush to Get?

My dentist recommended the Sonicare after noting some plaque build up. I'm trying to avoid the root planing procedure that might be required if I don't get this under control. The Sonicare comes so highly recommended, so I'm sold on the idea. But, when looking on line, there are SO MANY models! Is it worth the pricier, fancier kinds or do the basic models do the job? Seems the newer models have some bells and whistles I don't care about, but maybe do clean better and have some improvements. The model I'm looking at right now is about $175 (has 2 handles, UV sterilizer, travel case) - overkill or worth it? Would love input from those of you who use them!

What can I do next?

I have the model that is around $90 and LOVE it. I will never go back to regular toothbrushes again (unless I am traveling.) I wouldn't spend more than I did on it, though.

I used to have one and I am pretty sure each one uses the same brush heads so go with the cheapest model you can find.

Hi N.-

We just got a Phillips soni care...pretty basic...and just over $100 at Sam's Club. We have only had it since Father's Day (yeah...sexy gift I know...LOL) but we like it and it seems to be doing a nice job!

I see my dentist again in October, and will be able to see what he thinks! THAT is the true test.

Best Luck!

Just get the cheapest model - buy two if you want two bases but it already comes with two heads (that would still be still cheaper than buying the more expensive models). The others just have more bells and whistles. They all do the exact same thing. Target has them for about 60.00-70.00. They put them on sale once a year for around 30-40% off. We just bought our boys theirs for 40.00.

You will love it! It's like going to the dentist everyday!!!!!

Oh, and brush w/ hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. My teeth have never been in better shape, even the DDS told me so :)

I got the spinbrush sonic brush, was only around $20, and works great. Get the one with the rechargeable base.

Also the heads are about a 1/4 of the price of sonicare. I mean, why the heck pay $25 for a darn tiny piece of plastic!.

I had two and I threw them out. I like the old fashioned manual toothbrush. Does your dentist sell them? They might be cheaper through them.

the uv sterilizer is not needed, travel case is ok, but not a need either

The bases will all do the same thing, well, and wonderfully, so get the more basic model. I've had my e series one for about 7 yrs now, LOVE it, got it from being a Bzz Agent, and I got the sterilizer too, thought it was stupid and gave it away. The sterilizer didn't clean it, it just sanitized it if that makes sense.

I just replaced my original one (battery died) with a new one. Both of them were the basic model (paid around $40) Target just had them on sale. They are the best, I used to have the same problem, but since using the Sonicare (10 years?) I have had no new cavities. I too looked at the upgraded models, but figured if the basic one did the job so why bother with the rest and added expense.
