Which Lane Do You Drive In? JFF

I noticed today when I got on the highway that I automatically bolted over to the far left passing lane - as usual. I drive about 70 mph in a 65 and not that I pass everyone, but it usaully happens this way. Just got me thinking... which lane do you drive in?

PS - my grandma is a lefty as well, but she drives 45 in a 65 and people honk at her ALL the time. Drives me batty to drive with her - but I love her anyways :)

What can I do next?

Which ever lane is moving the fastest! I am impatient and I hate being in the car and want to get out asap!

I drive depending on where the safest lane is to be at the time, which technically is farthest away from a pack of cars. Usually, I try and stay in the middle, but sometimes, I go in the far left.

If the highway is packed I will stay in the left lane to leave the right lanes for merging. Otherwise I only move over to pass. It drives me nuts when someone is parked in the left lane not passing because it forces me to pass to their right, very dangerous because there are more blind spots on the right side.

Please if you are not passing anyone just get over, it is very dangerous. Imagine someone going 90 in the 65, they are coming up on you. (no I don't go 90) They are considering whether you are going to stay parked in that lane or move over to let them through. If they pick wrong you just got hit by a car going 90, you are all dead. :(

Didn't mean to make your JFF a downer but it is a pet peeve of mine. Well there are a few. If you want to do 70 then do it but do it in the lane furthest to the right that will still allow you to do 70. I have seen far too many deaths from this and at least in my opinion it is not just the fault of the guy going 90 even though he could have slowed down because the other driver could have been in the correct lane. Still more goes to dude going 90.... I think that is why the law is left lanes are for passing or you can get ticketed for impeeding the flow of traffic.

Oh and I am a lefty and that doesn't make me want to live in the left lane.

Ahh got it, the way you had it worded I thought you stayed in the fast lane. *blush*

Left lane usually. I have a led foot and I swear my car doesn't have a slow gear, lol. I never drive in the middle lanes because it doesn't leave me an out. I can't tell you how many times I have been cruising a long and the car in front of me slams on their breaks for no apparent reason and I have had to move into the shoulder to avoid getting up close and personal with their tail pipe. ( I don't tailgate but when your going 70/75 you can't stop that quick no matter how far you are behind the next car).

I drive on the left lane too! I hate when i'm driving down a 45mph speed limit road and run into someone that's going like 25mph! Drives me crazy! I normally do 5 over the limit while driving on the highway too! lol

In this city... 90% of the time; the right lane ... because it's the fastest. People are exiting all the time, so there are huge gaps while the people in the left "fast" lanes just sit and sit and sit and are trapped by gridlock. AND people entering are 'metered' so there's no grinding for a halt for people entering. I've gone by hundreds of cars in just a few minutes by staying in the right lane. OR the carpool lane (far left). I don't care how slow I'm going, when I'm passing gazillions of cars by going faster than THEY are, it makes me a little less batty.

2 lane highway, right except to pass. I'm typically going 10-20 over, depending on what the truckers are doing.

In the city I'm extremely anal about going the speed limit, although in THIS city, you'd be amazed how many people go 5 UNDER for no good reason. Out on the highway, I just follow the truckers. (Long Haul Truckers are the *best*). Granted, I still pass them regularly, but the rule of thumb is that a car can typically go 10mph faster than the trucks. When you're roadtripping, you often get to know many of the drivers on your route. As long as you're polite (like blinker on and wait till they flash you to move over, change to pass where they can still see you instead of drafting up their tailpipes and passing in their blindspot, ALWAYS slow down if they do -it takes a lot to slow a long haul trucker down, usually VERY bad weather or road conditions- always merging left to let entering cars and trucks have 'room' to enter without slowing traffic, etc... you can get 'looked after' for the duration of your trip. I really do prefer several hundred able bodied men looking out for me, instead of ticked off at me.)

Ususally carpool or the left (fast) lane.
I can not stand to be in the right lane. In So California there are waaayyyy to many trucks and too many intersecting freeways (which means lots of people merging) to stay in that lane.

I'm in a sports car and I drive in the lane going fastest along with the flow of traffic.

I try to stay out of the far left lane unless I'm passing but it does not always work that way. I don't hold people up behind me tho.
