You can look into Western Veterinary School in Pomona, they do a lot of low cost programs and I trust them.
Please keep them out of any parks or grass, I'm afraid they are two parvo cases waiting to happen at their age.
Hello friends, Can ya'll tell me what the cheapest way to get my 4 week old female pupies, spayed and vaccinated is?? I heard going to a clinic is cheaper then taking them to a vet, but does anyone have any more tips? We just got them last night, they are german sheppard/huskie mix and we rescued them from a mechanic shop. Thank you!!
Thank you all for the quick replies. Unfortunately the shop where these pupies came from refuses to spend any money on fixing the mom and they just keep giving her litters away which I think is extremly sad. We were thinking about getting 2 dogs anyways so I decided to ask them if I could have 2 pupies.I honestly didn't know it was bad to take them this young and I think the people there just wanted to get rid of them, I feel so bad now :( I highly doubt they will let me take them back to be with mom a bit longer. So what do I do now? Someone told me today that I should have them fixed before their first period so it wouldn't cost as much and that's why I was inquiring.
So I just contacted a clinic neaby through the aspca and they told me I have to wait till they are 4 months old and that the cost would depend on their weight then, and that right now they are only old enough for their Parvo shot which runs $14, looks like I'll be taking them in this afternoon.

You can call your local SPCA and ask them about spay/neuter and vaccination clinics.
Friends of Animals also has a program: http://www.friendsofanimals.org/programs/spay-neuter/
Four weeks? Are they even old enough to be weaned or did you rescue momma, too?
When you take them for the Parvo, talk to them about how you didn't know you shouldn't have gotten them this young and what do you need to do now? Do you need to bottlefeed them, for example?
Puppies don't get spayed that young. I think our German Shepherd was spayed at around 6 or 9 months old, per the vet's recommendation.
It's worth finding a good vet in your area. You want to have someone who sees your dogs all the time. Not all vets charge an arm and a leg.
I think it's AWESOME that you rescued your new puppies.
You absolutely should not spay such young puppies. Frankly, 4-week-old puppies are too young to be separated from their mother. Did the mechanic's shop have the mother? Is there a reason you removed the dogs before their recommended minimum of 8 weeks, or did you rescue mom too? Removing puppies from their mother too early can result in everything from health problems to social and behavior problems, and so if you didn't take Mom, these puppies were removed MUCH too early, so please call your local Humane Society or SPCA right away to find out what you need to do to compensate for this BIG problem.
Secondly, most animal rescues recommend spaying your dog between 4-6 months of age. Shelters will sometimes do it as young as 3 months, but never before. Later is fine as long as you do it BEFORE your dog comes into her first heat. Once you have let her go through heat, her risk of getting pregnant (and cancer) goes up. The Humane Society or SPCA that you call about the above problem should be able to recommend a low-cost clinic to spay the animals, and the clinic should be able to give you more details about the appropriate time to do so.
Good luck.
Our vet did our dog at around 5 months but it has to be done before certain times for male and female each. I think we had the female done around the same age, maybe a bit earlier like 4 months. It's a much more expensive procedure if the dog is old enough to go into heat, etc. If the testicles drop in the male it's a problem and more costly the older you do them if past that 'magic age'. Call some vets and ask.
They can't have surgery until they are months old. They cannot live through the anesthesia. I think it was about 7-8 months for our kitties we have taken in.
A vet won't do this until they are older. They won't even go into heat until they are closer to a year old.
It will be very costly and time consuming to make sure they are getting a bottle of puppy formula every few hours and that they need to still be taught a lot of the socialization things their mom would teach them. They'll need to still eat during the night too so you should plan on trading off with hubby or others so that if you work you are not all sleep deprived.
We have successfully raised 1 out of 3 kitties that was taken from the mom before time. The one that lived was a real fighter. He had such a spirit! He was part bobcat with think. He could stand at the table with his back paws on the floor and his chin on the table. He would use his paws to scoop food off then run off to eat it.
We went out to the farm to our storage building, the mommy had just had the litter and got scared, she ran off. She didn't come back.
We went up to the house for an hour and the kitty was still there and very upset. We went away another hour and went back and the kitty was not doing well, he needed to eat. So we took him, he still had his little ears folded down and his eyes were not open yet. We used an eye dropper that night and fed him Tiger's Milk formula from Walmart. Then the next day we took him to the vet. He gave us a kitty bottle and a better formula. The kitty bonded with us even though it would have been feral. We raised him and hubby even took him to work with him nights so we could sleep at home. I took him to work with me during the day so hubby could sleep. We even took him to Walmart with us, in hubby's shirt pocket or sleeping in hubby's collar. He was so tiny.
Anyway, he was one that lived. Others that we had tried to save just didn't bond or eat. They died. It is pretty common for them to not make it I guess.
So plan on spending a lot of money on these babies to get them to the point they can be weaned off bottles and then shots and other stuff to make sure they will be healthy and live.
I am glad you are trying, many others would have just left them to starve or wrung their neck to keep them from going through that.
Call your local SPCA, they are usually the cheapest and they do a great job.
We have low cost animal clinics in our area. Try googling low cost animal clinics and your city or county.
I'm just wondering if in all your research, if you find a free or cheap spay option, could you take the mother dog and have her done, as well? It is so sad that she is just going to have litter after litter and the owner does not care.
Good for you for taking the pups, even if it is a little early. You are giving Mom a break.
Depends on the vet but usually they don't get fixed until around 6 months old. Check some area vets in the county to see if they do routine mobile vaccine clinics.

These puppies are pretty young to be away from their mother so the first thing you need to think about is whether or not they are getting the proper nutrition. They can start vaccines at 6 weeks of age and should have their first Distemper/Parvo vaccine as close to that as possible. Look around for SPCA vaccine clinics or vets that have vaccine clinics to get low cost vaccines. You can do this for all of the puppy series just make sure they get vaccinated every 3 weeks until they are 16 weeks old. The majority of dogs will do into their first heat between 6-9 months of age. And it is much better to spay them prior to that. They will recover much faster. Again look for a low cost spay/neuter clinic. I would look early because some of the dates for the clinics will fill up fast.
On a side note make sure whereever you go they are giving you pain medications and e-collars. I've seen several come away from low cost clinics after surgery just not doing well and all they needed was some anti-inflammatories.
Google animal rescue organizations in your area. Some will help with the cost.
4 weeks is too young - they shouldn't be away from their mother yet. They need to at least be weaned. Once they're weaned and weigh between two and four lbs, it's safe to have them spayed/neutered.
Dogs usually reach puberty at four to six months. Having them fixed before that happens reduces the risk of breast cancer in females and prostate cancer in males later in life. Females do NOT need to go through at least one heat cycle before being spayed - that's a myth.
Vaccinations usually start at about 6 weeks.
They cannot get spayed/neutered until after 4 months of age. These puppies should also be with their mother until about 8 to 10 weeks of age. They will probably need to drink from a bottle since they are still so young.
You should call your local aspca and see if they can help with shots and everything else that comes with owning dogs. I would also make a complaint about the garage that has the mother. That is almost as bad as having a puppy mill and she should also be fixed. There are very strict laws regarding animal cruelty.
Good luck.
Good for you for rescuing the puppies!! Where 4 weeks is early, you rescued them and that is a good thing. I would call your local Humane's Society and ask them for care information for such little guys, We got our lab mix at 6 weeks from a family that wanted to give away the litter sooner rather then later and it was early, but the pups were eating puppy food and were fine.
Our dog is big and we were quoted a ton of money to get him nuetered, and there is a equal number of thoughts on when the best time is to spay and nueter the puppies. I also have heard before their first heat is best. What I did was look on the animal control website and they had a bunch of vets that offer subsidized spays and nueters. The Dr's also have their criteria, like not under 4 months, or under a certain weight, ect. I'd start there and google or yelp them so get a idea about them. I ended up getting my dog nuetered for $75.00, as oppossed to $375. at the cheapest. He got great care and meds were sent home with us. That included a follow up if needed.
Good luck and good for you!
Wow...4 weeks! I would contact a shelter and talk to them about their spay/neuter service... I assume there is more than one pup? It would be REALLY beneficial for these pups if you could get mom too...
Most shelter vets will spay as early as 8 weeks. Our vet likes to do it depending on size: between 15lbs and 30lbs - which can be early for a large breed mix like this. We ha a 4 month old malamute in our "puppy" class that was already 60 lbs!
At our vet the base cost for a spay under 30 lbs is $70. Pain medication, e-collar and antibiotic is extra... so we ended up spending about $200 when everything was said and done.
I had the option of getting a 6 week old pup when we got our dog... after a lot of back and forth I decided to pass on it - and I am HAPPY I did. IMO puppies that young need to be with their mother that young and I would attempt to give them back if I was you.
We ended up getting a 10 week old puppy from a different breeder instead, which was perfect!
Good luck!
Since you did take the puppies away from their mother too early and don't believe the former owner will take them back until they're old enough to wean, then you need to get those puppies a veterinarian ASAP. You need advice on how and what to bottle feed and how to properly care for them. It's going to be intensive because they're just tiny babies. They must eat every few hours, and they sleep a lot. They need a lot of cuddling and warmth. They need supervision. They don't like to be alone.
I would honestly do my best to get those puppies back with their mother, especially since their mother is likely missing them. She's going to be wondering where her babies are and why she can't feed for them and care for them.
You should be able to take the puppies back after they've weaned from their mother. Then on advice from your vet, wait until they're old enough to be neutered or spayed. Your vet should be able to do it, but you can also use the same vet that the Humane Society uses.
I'll be honest, though. If you can't afford to get your dog/s spayed and just want cheap cheap cheap then you can't afford to have a dog, period.
