Spay My Dog

I have a puppy that we rescued from what we think was an abusive home. I am looking to get her spayed (sp?). We have already checked into the vetrenary hospitals and they are really expensive. We cant afford to pay a whole lot. I am not sure if anyone has any ideas on what we should do. She is about 8 months as far as our vet thinks. We go to the VCA animal hospitals for our regular vet appointments. We live at about I-17 and Cactus. Please help. I don't need to contribute to the problem.

What can I do next?

We took our dog to the Spay and Neuter Clinic over there at Cactus and the I-17 right across from Food City. We paid $80.00 for her. That was the cheapest that we found. We also found that they are cheap when it comes to the shots as well.

Good luck

I know that the Humane Society offers low cost spay and neuter clinics and has information posted on their website. If you think she has any pit bull in her they will actually pay you to spay her. You might want to try calling any of the local rescue groups and ask them for any suggestions, as I am sure they would be glad to refer you to someone. I know that the people at Benji's Buddies are extremely helpful. Good luck!

Hi, I understand what you are talking about, I do work for a VCA Animal Hospital. I do know that there are some low cost clinics, but you have to watch out for them. They do not do pre-op bloodwork or give you pain meds for after care. If you do go that route then be sure to ask for those extras, it does make a huge difference in recovery. Or you can take them to the Humane society they do low cost spaying too.. Hope I helped you in any way.

Check with the humane society. They usually do it at certain times at a cheaper rate. To try and keep the birth rate down of unwanted pets.
They also do a "shot clinic" every now and then for their regular shots. It's usually a line, but worth it in the long run as far as prices!!

you're located right near a low cost spay neuter clinic.
if you have the ability to go and wait to drop off, they're clean clinics and the vets are good.
i work with rescues and have had good experiences there.
if your dog is healthy, it's a great alternative.
just search in the yellow pages for "spay neuter clinic"

you're not too far from village animal clinic as well - they're full service and have great prices.
their vets are amazing and help us on a regular basis.
it's at i 17 and tbird - listed in the yellow pages as well.

humane society isn't far from you and they have some low cost programs as well as a mobile clinic.

you're in the perfect part of town to get an affordable spay - if you can't find anything, email me and i'll help you.
best of luck and thanks for being proactive.

btw - all these places do affordable shots too.

Hello!
The events at the Humane Society can sometimes be difficult to get into due to the demand. Have you looked at Petsmart? If I remember correctly, their clinics are usually a little less expensive.

Good luck!

This site has a list of low cost spay/neuter clinics:
http://www.adlaz.org/spay/maricopa/index.html

You could also try the spay/neuter voucher program. It's primarily designed for people who require financial assistance, but the application process does not require that you provide evidence of financial need. Spaying and neutering of pets is provided for free, and rabies shots and licensing is available at very low cost. After an application is submitted, a voucher is issued and you have 90 days to use the voucher.

It's wonderful that you rescued that poor pup from an abusive situation and it's great that you are going to get her spayed even with limited finances. So many people use the cost of altering their pet as an excuse not to do so. Kudos for being a responsible pet parent! :)

Looks like you got the word...LOL

The Big Fix is free..have to download the papers from that website & send in & about 2 weeks you get a vouvher & a list of choices to get the service done.

Any of the "Spay & Neuter Clinic" are the cheapest & do a fine job. Take him in the early am, take him home by 5pm same day.

Every animal is going to hate the next few days after surgery regardless, how doped up you want to pay for that is up to you. =)

There are places that will do it for significantly less than the vet. The Humane Society, for example, has certain days where that's all they do. You can check out the website online, it's "humanesocietyaz.org" I believe. There are also places that do it for free. You may ne able to find that information by calling an animal shelter or rescue. Just check the yellow pages. The longer you wait, the more expensive it can be. But there are alternative options out there to avoid the expense at your vet. I recently spent almost 700.00 having my puppy spayed. About a week later I was talking to a woman who told me that she had it done for free, on a truck, driven by volunteers and a licensed vet that came to her house..I personally feel a little more secure about going to an actual office, but it can be costly for that security!

Try going to www.Alteredtails.org They are mobile spay and neuter discounted people that go to different locations (usually Petco's). If you go to their website, it tells you how much they cost (less than 1/2 of what vets office cost) and where they will be. The only downfall is, its 1st come 1st serve. They only take so many animals and you have to be able to pick them up within a reasonable amount of time after they call you when they are done. They do a really good job, I never had any complications when I took both of my dogs there, and neither did my brother.

Also, a co-worker of mine took her dog to a spay/neuter clinic just North of Cactus on 28th Drive, and she said she had no problems there.

Good luck!!!

Congrats on your new puppy.I took my pets to a spay and neuter clinic. They are much less than a traditional vet's office. They are a "real" vets. The cost is low due to the fact all they do spay and neutering and shots. I know there is one on 16th St. and Bell and I think there is another one on 28th Drive?? They just called spay and neuter clinic, so you can probably find them in the phone book.
