We just found out that were pregnant. Really exciting until I found out that Prentice Women's hospital doesn't take our Insurance - BCBS Choice PPO. :( Does anyone have suggestions on other hospitals and doctors in Chicago? We'd like to be as close to the NW side as possible.

What can I do next?

I would suggest calling our insurance company first to see who is in your network. Unfortunately it may not be a matter of choice but a matter of what is going to be better financially. I have good insurance but still paid about $2000 out of pocket for a typical delivery for both of my children.

I delivered both of my children at Rush & I cannot say enough about it. They also just built a new maternity ward that is beautiful. Congratulations!!

I delivered both of my kids (years ago now) at Illinois Masonic in Lakeview and had a great experience both times. For my first I was in the Alternative Birthing Center and loved it! For my second I was in traditional labor and delivery and it was also a very good experience. Illinois Masonic is part of Advocate and they have many good doctors. Dr. Brenda Darrell delivered both of my kids and she was wonderful! My biggest current complaint is how Advocate manages making appointments, contacting your doctor, etc. Everything goes through a centralized call center and it is not managed well.

I had all of my kids at Rush University Medical Center. The maternity staff has always been excellent. My doctor's were with Women's Health Consultants. They handle high risk as well as normal pregnancy.

I cannot recommend Evanston Hospital enough, especially if you choose to work with the midwives there. Absolutely wonderful!
