Seeking 'Reviews' of Dr. Sodini

I don't know of Dr. Sodini, but I recommend the midwives at the Alternative Birthing Center. The previous story of not being able to use the ABC due to lack of nurses was a new one to me. I would highly recommend that you find out about what you can do to avoid getting into that situation yourself--hiring a doula or whatever you need to do. As you can see from that story, having only the care of a nurse who is not supportive of your choices is certainly less than helpful.

I had both my kids with the midwives at Il Masonic. I highly recommend their practice. I used self-hypnosis instead of drugs for pain relief. The first time I was in the Alternative Birthing Center, which was a great experience. The second time, in 2005, the hospital stopped staffing the ABC with dedicated nurses, which from what I can gather means regular nurses don't want to staff it, so it's hardly available. I had to use the regular l&d triage which involved lots of hospital regulations that I think have more to do with the hospital than the patient. The nurses seemed mystified that anyone would deliver without drugs. They also forced me to be hooked up to a fetal monitor (as opposed to a handheld doppler) which meant I was had to lay down--a terrible way to endure labor pains. Then they got concerned that my blood pressure was going up--hello! fighting with nurses while you're in labor will make that happen. Luckily, my husband was able to advocate for me, the midwife got me out of triage quickly, and my second baby came fast. Looking back, I think a doula familiar with Il Masonic would have been a big help. The midwife can only do so much and probably can't be there for much of your labor.

I delivered at IMMC 10 years ago with a midwife and had a great experience. I am expecting again in the fall and was fortunate to be assigned the same midwife, Martha Barry. I hope to deliver in the ABC, as well.

I don't know anything about Dr. Sodini but I delivered both of my children at Illinois Masonic and had a great experices with the hospital and staff both times. My practice had doctors and mid-wifes in it and I was delivered by a doctor both times. The first one was in the Alternative Birthing Center; my MD delivered me there and it waa a natural childbirth experience. My doctor and the nurses in the ABC were absolutely wonderful. If the ABC still exists, I highly recommend it.

I love Dr. Sodini! She just took care of me through a high-risk pregnancy that resulted in beautiful, healthy twins. She seems to spend more time with her patients than a lot of doctors, and is very open to tailoring your care to your wishes -- I'd imagine she would be happy to work with you to ensure you had a more natural experience. I also really like the other Drs. at her office. My high risk Dr., who suggested Dr. Sodini to me, also spoke very highly of the midwives at Masonic, so I don't think you can go wrong either way.

I delivered my first child at IL Masonic and had a basically good experience. I would have opted for the Alternative Birthing Center(ABC) but it had temp closed at the time.
I was referred to Dr Sodini when I found out I was having twins. All the docs at the practice were great. Sodini especially - took time, answered all my questions and was up for trying "alternative" methods to turn one twin who was breach. Ultimately Helbing was the one who delivered me. Everything went well. I would recommend the practice though my preference was for more natural methods and this practice is somewhat conventional, because my circumstances made this a good choice.
