Hi. I am ready to get my infant car seat installed and wanted to find the nearest police station or center that would install it. Any idea where to go in NYC (I live on the Upper Westside).
Thank you to everyone that wrote back to me with advice on where to get my car seat installed. I found out that the Department of Transportation in NYC will do it. They do it on 1 Saturday per month - usually the second weekend of every month, from 11-3pm. During the week, they do this service from 8-9:15 every day. (for anyone else that may need this info too).

Albees on the upper west side would do it. They are a childrens store that sells everything. And they know about every product ,as it is what they do all day. I have four kids and they have helped me with all my car seats, strollers and cribs.
Hey A., you can go to the nearest fire department or the nearest police department and get it installed. Or you ped. can install it.
I know they are telling people that the nearest fire house can install the seats but please be warned that they haven't really told the fire fighters this and while there might be someone there who can do it for you (if they have children and have done it themselves) don't be surprised if they are unable to help. I know a few fire fighters and they have never been instructed on installing baby seats and they are unsure why people are sent to them for instructions.
The instructions that come with the seats are pretty easy to follow.
You can try your local fire house or usually about once a month, the NYC DOT has free car seat checks at one of those dealerships along 11th Avenue. Try signing up for the city's emails at nyc.gov and they send out an email when it's going to happen. Good Luck.

Come to a free car seat check on Saturday, February 9, at Chevrolet-Saturn of Harlem, 2485 Second Avenue at 127th Street, Manhattan, between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm. The Department of Transportation will install it at their safety cirty location on 158th st. It is rightoff the westside highway and great. I went this spring right before my son was born. Just call to make and appointment.

the potamkin on 125th and 2nd ave does it the second sat of every month from 11-3. I cannot remember the exact website but it is there and they do a great job.
Just read the instructions and do it yourself. I've never heard of anyone doing it as a service.
