My little girl dosen't try to climb out but she is tall and I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOO wooried that she is going to flip out of it. The bed is on the lowest setting. When should I do it?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I put my little girl in the toddler be adbout 2 months ago and she is doing great. She loves her bed now. I will tell her that it is bedtime and she walks to her room , crawls in bed and waits for me to tuck her in. Sometimes I'll catch her getting out but for the most part she stays in their. Thank you everyone for your advice it was very helpful.

It sounds like it is time...If you feel concerned for her safety..its time. I bought a little add on for my toddler bed. it is primarily mesh and it has a strap that goes under the mattress. It keeps my 2yr old from rolling out of the bed. It has a metal tubing frame that is wrapped in thick material. She loves it.

It is a hard decision, because when you go to the toddler bed they can get out of bed anytime they want. I had my daughter at 7 months flip out of her bed and it was the worst thing ever. She was fine but I felt horrible. All i can say is make sure you are ready.

That is entirely up to you and when you feel comfortable with it. With both my boys as soon as they turned 1 I moved them to a toddler bed. I also piled comforters all along the side of hte bed that wasnt against the wall. Worked otu just fine. My oldest was trying to climb out before his first bday so I knew it was just a matter of time. That is why I moved him to a toddler bed. With my second he was an escape artist so yet agian I knew we would have him in a toddler bed as soon as I could.
Some people said I did it too young but they didnt have ot live with the fear of their kids hurting themselves while I did.

Both of mine were almost 2 1/2. My second one was the only one I had a problem with getting out of bed (it was a very short lived prob though). I'd just walk in put her back in bed and walk out. The first few nights I had to do it several times and then all of a sudden it stuck that she was supposed to stay there. It's still a prob occasionally because my 2 girls share a room but it's actually not bad now. I waited with mine because when they sleep they are all over the place but I didn't have a problem with them climbing out. (Thank goodness for short children, their legs wouldn't reach the top!) If your little girl isn't trying to climb out I wouldn't really worry about it yet. I think it's harder when they are younger because you can't reason with them. We tried with our oldest before she turned two but she wasn't ready then. Just make sure that if she were to climb out that the area around the crib doesn't have anything that could hurt her and if you're really worried throw a mattress or something on the floor by it.

Well H., my daughter wasn't much younger than yours when I put her in her toddler bed. I was tirec of her being in my bed, cause she wouldn't sleep in her crib. She was afraid of it for some reason. She has done great in her toddler bed since we put her in it. A few months ago she fell out for the first time, because she scooted way down (and like your little girl mine too is tall) and ended up rolling off. She fell may a foot to the floor though and was fine. She got up, came to tell me what happened and we went and tucked her back in. It was funny since she wasn't hurt. I say give it a try, she might like it better than the crib, being a big girl bed and all. That's how mine fell for it. LOL

I think it depends on the child. We put my 21 month old son in a toddler bed at 12 months. We shortly after had to put the crib side back on the bed. We could not get him to stay in the bed. He constantly wanted to play with his toys and one morning I found him asleep in the blanket drawer under the bed.

The strange thing is after we put the crib side back up he never climbed out again. Everything strictly depends on your own child.

I have four kids and have moved each of them out of the crib at different times, ranging from 13 months to 26 months. It just depends on the kid...Good luck! I have a "car" bed that my 18 month old is in and it has a little lip. He has been in it for a few months with no problems.
