When Is a Good Time to Eliminate Naps?

My daughter was always a good sleeper and I never had problems putting her down for naps. My question is when is a good time to stop letting her take these naps? She sometimes takes up to a 2 hour nap. Her bedtime is at 8 or 8:30 and I still do not have a problem putting her down then. She'll get up in the middle of the night only to go to the bathroom. She'll be 5 next month.

What can I do next?

WOW! Like the others, I too am jealous!! My kids both stopped naps at two! If it's not broke--don't fix it-- LOL!
I would stop only if it starts to affect her night time routine.

As long as she sleeps well at night, there's nothing wrong with a nap! You may want to start skipping them every now and then to get her ready for school, but I'd say lucky you for having a child that gives you a break during the day and still sleeps at night. (Most kids have to stop napping around 3 or 4 yrs old because they won't sleep at night.)

ok all i have to say it that you are so lucky and i'm jelous... I wouldn't change a thing, she will let you know when she doesn't need all that sleep. just go accoding to her sleeping at night. If anything right before school starts I would cut the naps back and give her an earlier bedtime. I'd enjoy it

I really can't add anything new because I agree with everyone else. Enjoy it while it lasts and she'll start showing signs (not sleeping at night or just using the nap time as "quiet time" instead) when she's ready to stop napping. My son stopped napping at about 3 1/2, my daughter is almost 3 and still napping. I have a nephew who didn't stop until he was almost 6 because he just needed that extra sleep. Like I said, enjoy it while it lasts! :-)

My son is 5 and still takes a nap. He passes out in the car on the way home from school and sleeps anywhere from 30 minutes to almost 2 hours. He also goes to bed at 8 and is up at 6:30. My answer is let her keep up with them, she's probably a very active kid and the nap helps refresh her. She will probably stop taking them on her own sometime and when she does you will be wondering what happened to that wonderful quiet 2 hours a day you used to have :)

I agree with Christine...I am soooooo jealous!! I have a 2 1/2 year old that we've already had to eliminate his naps because he wasn't able to go to sleep until about 11:00 or so at night..ouch!! So don't worry about the nap thing, she'll let you know when she doesn't need them anymore...just enjoy the naps while they last. =)

We have the same situation. My son is 4 1/2 and still takes a 2 hour nap. Some kids require more sleep than others. My mom said I was the only kid in my kindergarten class who actually slept at rest time and they couldn't wake me up! I grew out of it, of course:) Every kid is different and it sounds like you have a good thing going.
