What Would You Eat Prior to Labor Induction

I've decided to be induced on Tuesday due to some kidney problems I have been experiencing. I'm 39 weeks. Dr. Said to eat a light breakfast. With my daughter I ate some key lime yogurt when my contractions first strarted and totally threw that up when I got to the hospital. To this day, the thought of key lime yogurt makes me.want to Wretch. I'm afraid to eat anything I like for fear of throwing it up. I was thinking maybe some whole grain toast with peanut butter. Any suggestion? Thanks!

What can I do next?

I was told to have a milkshake any time vomiting is probable. It's supposed to not taste so bad coming back up. Maybe choose a flavor that you find pleasant but that wouldn't be a big deal if you never had again.

I was sorta induced. I went into labor on my own but the drs used pitocine to speed up the process. I had had an early dinner that night. I did throw up when I got tot he hospital but I didn't throw up much. They ended up giving me phenergan to stop the nausea and vomiting. I would try like toast, an apple, banana, or maybe some crackers. Good luck. :)

I ate nothing! I didn't want to puke! I probably wouldn't have puked though, because I wasn't nauseous at all. I think toast and apple sauce would be good. Congrats, and may the quick labor gods stop by your delivery room ;)

When I was in labor I went through the drive-thru and got bean and cheese soft tacos on the way to the hospital. That's what I had a craving for, so that is what I ate. If I had thought I might throw them up though I probably wouldn't have gotten them. I would have gotten a milk shake or sherbet.

When I was little and got sick my mom always gave me orange or lime sherbet. If I threw it up it didn't hurt and didn't leave a horrid taste in my mouth either.

The toast with peanut butter sounds good but also eat some eggs and orange juice. Protein, vit c and zinc help with healing and will keep your sugar levels balanced.

I had a very difficult pregnancy and when my son didn't come on his due date, I had a doctor appointment the next day. They scheduled me for induction the next morning. He didn't give me any dietary restrictions and my husband took us to one of my favorite restaurants so I could have something I loved to eat.
I'd had a pretty good appetite, but strangely, I could only eat a couple bites and my back hurt really bad so we just went home so I could rest.
Hah! I didn't rest all night. My back was killing me.
My water broke at 5am. I didn't realize I'd been in labor.
My body knew what it was doing and I had no appetitie.
I did get very nauseous, but I didn't have anything to throw up.
If toast and peanut butter sounds good to you, then go for it.
Maybe have some fruit.

I wish you the very best! Please let us know when the baby arrives!

Honestly, pretty much everyone I know has thrown up during labor, regardless of what they've eaten. I threw up during natural labor with my first as well as during the c-section with my second. I hadn't eaten anything prior to either of their births, but my body found the ice chips to be too much I guess.

If you know you want to eat, but are pretty sure you're going to throw it up anyway, my only advice is to stay far, far away from lettucy salads of any sort. It's the most painful thing to throw up & will give you a foul taste in your mouth afterwards.

Stay away from greasy/dairy food. Stick to lean meats, fresh fruits/veggies & whole grain. I had scheduled inductions for both of my pregnancies, and I ate full meals before going to the hospital. You are going to need all the energy you can for that marathon called labor & delivery! Depending on where you are delivering - hospital/birthing center - you may have food restrictions once you are induced. Good luck!

I ate spaghetti before I had to go to the doctor's for an ultrasound. After she checked me, she decided to induce me as I was already 5 days past the due date. I got in on the 1st at 5pm, and had an emergency C-section the next day at 8:50pm( due to epidural being too high). I don't remember eating probably until the next morning. So make sure it is something that will last awhile.

I had a protein shake with my first and the second I had a cheesburger from the Hat. I was induced both times. Threw up the first time becuase I was chowing down ice chips because I was starving. I had the cheeseburger about 3 hours before the induction and I think I was well digested (and full) to make it through the night of labor and subsequent delivery. So in my experience I think you can keep the foods light if you want. But have enough of it and early enough so that tossing it later won't really be an option. Good luck with your labor/delivery and everything!

Maybe a protein shake with fruit. Also I've heard to make red raspberry tea but really strong like use twice the amount of tea bags recommended. Add honey when it's still warm until it's pretty sweet. Then freeze this mixture in ice cube trays. You can take these to the hospital in a cooler and suck on them when you're only allowed ice chips.

I would avoid anything acidic so that it doesn't burn on the way back up...

Toast with butter or PB
Bowl of cereal and a banana
Scrambled egg with toast

Something light, but filling (grains and proteins) so that you don't feel "empty" sooner than needed!

I had a semi-emergency c section, so I can't speak from experience, but I would stay away from dairy...it is harder on the tummy. Toast or fruit seems like a good bet. CONGRATS AND GOOD LUCK!!

In my birthing class, we were told that we could eat whatever we wanted . . . especially since you most likely wont be able to eat until after the delivery. However, we were warned about greasy food, or any other food that might upset your stomach on a normal day. If certain foods made you feel sick during the morning sickness phase, I would probably stay away from those foods too. If you really have no idea what might make you sick, I would stick to the basics. I ate my regular dinner and went into labor about ten at night. in the middle of the night I think I ate an apple and ended up at the hospital by 5 AM. I delivered at 2pm and did not throw up at all.
