I would never have tried this but was given a taste and told that they wouldn't tell me what was in it until I tried it. Spinanch, I know I can't spell!!,. Works great with blueberry.
My son is on a huge smoothie kick right now. I use a small container of Greek yogurt, a teaspoon of fat free cool whip, and all kinds of fresh and frozen fruits. I know some people sneak in veggies and was wondering how well this works? Any new ideas so I can change it up a bit. Thanks!

I like my smoothies to be more "milkshake like". Here is my basic recipe is
1 cup milk or 1/2 milk plus 1/2 cup yogurt or kefir
(kefir is a probiotic yogurt drink)
1 cup frozen fruit
2 T powdered pudding mix
1 T soy or whey protein, optional
Combos we've done:
Blueberries with lemon pudding
Berries (pick your kind) with chocolate pudding (my fav is strawberry or blueberry)
Mango & peach with lemon or vanilla pudding
Bananas, mango, & vanilla pudding
We haven't tried veggies, but I bet carrot juice for juice smoothies would be great--it is sort of sweet. I'll have to try the spinach idea.
Also, the mix for smoothies (whatever you're making) makes great popsicles! :)
I like to put in yogurt (strawberry, raspberry, whatever), some frozen fruit, and then a spoonful of orange or pineapple sherbert, plus some juice (whatever we have, apple, grape). My 2 yr old and I love them.
How about adding fresh spinach? It pairs great with strawberries and honey.
I buy the frozen fruit bags from Costco.... either the mixed fruits or the strawberries.
I use that, add milk, add honey, add vanilla yogurt. Super good. My kids like it.
I also do a Peanut Butter smoothie.. (I don't know how old your kid is), but I put in peanut butter, 1 banana, milk, 1-2 Tablespoons Ovaltine, and my kids love that too.
I don't really measure anything, I just eyeball everything and go according to taste.
Oh, I also do a Berry smoothie, with blueberries and strawberries or whatever Berries you have. I add milk, honey, vanilla yogurt.
Because the fruits are already frozen.... I add NO ice to the smoothies...otherwise it gets too watery.
good luck,
Susan
- frozen strawberries and blueberries, a banana and enough apple juice to blend it
Also, when your banana's go ripe to quick in the summer. Before you throw them away or eat them all so you don't lose money. Peel them put them in a zip lock freezer bag and freeze them. Then when you are ready to make a smoothy throw in a banana. Makes it thicker like ice cream but without the ice cream.
My smoothie:
1 1/4 cup almond milk
1 frozen banana
1/2 cup blueberries
1 tablsp van. soy protien
my kids go nuts!
Whey protien to keep my tummy full, frozen strawberries and blueberries, fresh banana, and sunny D orange juice. You can add fresh carrot juice to this and he would not eve notice!
We make them every morning. My kids take turns choosing the fruit combos. I use plain yogurt, whey protein, agave nectar to sweeten, baby oatmeal (keeps the tummy full longer), 2-3 frozen fruits, and juice. I make enough for three of us. A tablespoon of frozen OJ is also a great flavor addition. My son is wheat free and no processed sugar. My daughter can't drink milk. So due to diet restrictions we have to be creative. They stay full all morning long and my son stays more focused in school with the added protein. Frozen fruit is nice and cold for summer mornings. For an added treat we add whipped cream on top. My kids are really good at eating their veggies so I don't need to add it in at this point.
Orange, banana, strawberry
Mango, blueberry
Cherry, orange, mango
These are some of our faves.
flax seed meal.....bee pollen....wheat grass
If you have a juicer you can add lettuce or kale and as long as you add blueberries or apple it will mask the flavor, but the drink will still be green (which really bothers my daughter!)
Lately we've been doing 1/2 banana, 3/4 cup raw milk or almond milk, 4-5 chopped dates, 1Tbs. raw cacao powder and a spoonful of coconut oil. It's so delicious it's used more as a dessert but it's healthy.
Where do you people come up with this stuff? Makes me feel so inadequate! :)
My kids like when I add Naked Juice - carrot or spinach flavors are good. Flax seeds too! It gives it a nutty taste.
Just about anything can be added to a smoothie! It's fun to get creative!
