Dear Mommas,
Has anyone out there hosting a cookie exchange party? If so, what did you serve?
I am hosting a charity cookie exchange party this weekend as I did last year. I am looking for ideas on what beverages or food to serve with the cookies? Last year I served chocolate egg nog that did not go over as well as I thought it would. This year I would like to try something different. Or should I just go for the staple of white milk and chocolate milk, regular egg nog and coffee? We will be tasting the cookies and awarding prizes for the most original and tasty recipes. I also plan on serving some type of fruit dish.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much Mammas!

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for those great ideas!! They all sound much better than the plan I had. Everyone is right about the "too many sweets with all the cookies, go for something not so sweet". I think I might try the cinnamon apple cider in the coffee perculator just for fun in addition to milk, coffee, then serve a meat/cheese/cracker tray as well.
Hopefully this year will be better than the last:) I want to be sure everyone comes back next year too!
Got lots to do for tomorrow, Thanks so much ladies, I knew I could count on you!

I would have milk, and ice water, and maybe a crock pot full of hot chocolate..that is always nice. And, I would likely serve something other than fruit..something not so sweet. Maybe a veggie tray, some chips or pretzels, even some nuts. Just something to cut the sweetness of all those cookies..yummy:) Have fun ~A.~

Sounds like a ton of sweets. Maybe serve a meat/cheese/cracker tray along with it. I like the idea of a veggie tray as well over a fruit tray. I would stay away from the eggnog and go with the basic milk, coffee, tea and/or hot chocolate. Cookie parties are a ton of fun...have a great time! :-)

I love warm drinks with warm cookies! I have a fun recipe from a friend for apple cider....you combine premade apple cider (large bottle) with a bag of red hots candy! She fixes hers in a large coffee perculator and puts the red hots where the grounds usually are. I love going to her home for an annual Christmas party for that treat and her home smells wonderful when we all arrive as well! Have Fun!

One of my friends had hot chocolate in a crock pot (premade) and then had candy canes, whip cream, sprinkles, etc. to put in it. It was such a cute idea! She also had water and milk too. But I thought making the fancy hot cocoa was perfect and if people didn't want it then there was water/milk. At hers, we didn't eat the cookies, we just were given a thing to take a few cookies of each batch people brought home. I love the taste test/prize idea though - that will be fun! People will just eat (I woudl think) a small bite of each cookie, it's not like they (hopefully:) will eat a whole cookie of each kind to judge it. I would just take a cookie and cute it up into a TINY bite size for them. If you do this at 7 or later I wouldn't worry much about other food, perhaps just 2 appetizers or something to munch on that aren't sweet (cheese/cracker/fruit/etc.). HAVE FUN!

I had a cookie exchange a few years ago and served coffee, water, and hot apple cider. I didn't want to do anything too sweet since we were already sampling all the sugary cookies. I also just had a few bowls of Chex Mix out for something "salty". Cheese and crackers might be a nice option as well.

Have a wonderful time!

Since you are having cookies I would serve something light. Milk might be okay, but I would have some water or lemonade. Or hot tea depending on the age of the participants.
