R.D.
I haven't heard that yet, but then again, I rarely watch t.v.
5 inch heels... sexy.
My husband... sexy.
A breadmaker... not sexy. Practical, but not sexy.
Yeah, I don't get that either ;)
I don't get it. Everywhere I look the new buzzword is "it's sexy."
So far today I have heard it applied to Fast Five and American Horror (not the actors but the shows, themselves). I keep hearing it applied to food. How is food sexy? Tasty? Sure. Nasty. Sometimes. But sexy?
I am not a prude. My husband is super sexy (he's so fit =) ). Adam Levine from Marroon 5 is totally sexy. But pasta salad with capers is not sexy.
I think it's become too much the focal point for our society. I don't want my kids striving for sexy. At least not now. And it's everywhere! You can't get away from it.
Does anyone else find this trend disturbing
*Why, thank you, GalwayGirl! I may just blush.
*I do see that they are taking the sex out of sexy, but it's like the difference between "pretty" and "hot". My teen boys are absolutely not allowed to use that word in reference to a girl in my presence. There's just got to be a better freakin' word.
*For the record, I do think hair can be sexy. My husband shaves his head. That can be sexy, too. ;)

It's actually so prevalent now that it's lost it's meaning. I agree with you completely on the food thing... and I'm a complete foodie!
The funniest place I have seen it recently was in a maternity clothing catalogue... no matter how you look at it, maternity clothes just aren't sexy. I appreciate the effort, but really?
Yes, I find it very disturbing. A father of a girl once commented that he thought his daughter looked sexy in her new shirt. I said to him, "Pretty." I would be horrified if my father told me I looked sexy. >: P
Ditto Jo W, a thing being sexy is no longer a reference to sex. Like a thing 'sucks' is no longer a reference to bjs, but it once was.
:)
You do see that the trend it taking sex out of the term sexy, right?
Luna is right that sex sells. My hair spray and some other hair products are from a line called "Big and Sexy Hair" I think it'd be much less catching if they just called it Big Hair. haha.
I agree though... when I'm cooking a salad I don't think ohh that's sexy!! haha!
Added: I just said "cooking a salad" Who cooks a salad?! haha! Guess I'm a little ditzy this morning! :-)
I think this started somewhere in the last year...
My daughter came home just after turning 6 and said "the girls at school think Justin Bieber is sexy!"...
Now I have said before I don't do a lot of censoring, but I did on this one!
I said "you know that is an adult word and is not apporpriate for little ladies to use"...she replied "is it a bad word?"...I said "no but I would prefer you wait to use it when you can understand what the word really means!"....she understood and has not said it again.
I love the word sexy...but I think it's not a word like cool, or "tight" or awesome or any other word that would fit certain categories better. Sexy is for sex...for attraction...but some things just can't be sexy!
I really dislike that, too. You know what? My 6 yo daughter has started saying "sexy" and I immediately tell her "please don't use that word. That is an adult word." I asked her where she got it and she says "girls at school." Ugggh!
The other new phrase that bugs me is "epic" everything is epic now.
Just think now if that food is sexy and epic!
you really want to see how sexy is everywhere... look on ebay, type in any costume and there is more of the sexy costumes than regular ones! Robin Hood and Tinkerbell were the biggest ones I found. Great wonderful if your body is truly sexy... but for those like me that have a little fluff... sometimes you just want the regular I guess not so sexy costume!
I had to laugh out loud at "How is food sexy". Lol. So true.
LOL I think this stuff all the time! I am glad I'm not the only one.
Yes, I do!
It's just plain stupid.
(And I've worked in adv/marketing for over 20 years.)
m.d. my nieghbor said tat about his teen in her halloween custome once...gacve M. the creeps...also food can be sexy, if the right food (whipped cream) is applied to the right person...lol
L.,
I just want to say you are awesome.
I can see "sexy" in reference to a shiny fancy car, (even though I couldn't care less about cars).
But now that I am thinking about it....possibly it could be applied to some sort of sinfully delicious chocolate dessert. Man, do I loves me some chocolate. I think that is as far as I could take it in the inanimate objects/food area though.
Oh I agree.. I teach classes for a non-profit and was teaching with an underprivalged inner-city school this summer. There was a 16yr old boy who kept calling EVERYTHING sexy... and the class was a BABYSITTING class.... we were learning how to make resume's and he was wanting to name his 'company' the sexy babysitter something or other... i was like NO! i can PROMISE you no parent in their right mind will hire you if you do that! He was absolutly getting the wrong impression from somewhere...
Eh, it's just the current buzz word. It'll likely change, but not until you're ready to slit your own throat due to hearing it so often. I don't like it much myself, either for the exact same reasons as you. It's not applicable in almost any of the scenarios it's currently being used for. I also don't want my kids to use it at the ages of 10 & 12.
Well, because unfortunately, sex sells. If marketers can slip in a sexy tomato into the sexy caprese salad and make people want to buy it, fine. I definitely find it strange though. Sad but true.
yep, it is to bizarre. unless there is a new definition for the word sexy they have came up with, I think it is totally innappropriate and weird.
Sexy has been selling products FOREVER practically. I'm really disappointed in the new Jack-in-the-Box commercial. It is just ridiculous.
Truthfully, in addition to the "sexy" thing, I'm just so over all of our children being exposed to too much "everything". Even some of the kids shows are pushing the envelope as far as I am concerned. Not to mention commercials and music. We all know kids repeat what they hear. My husband and I are seriously thinking about getting rid of our cable altogether. I have children from age 22 all the way down to 4. Even my 22 year old notices a huge difference from when she was growing up and what she was exposed to. Trying to keep the 6 and 4 year old "in check" is definately more of a challenge "these days". Thanks for your question L..
I think it is a new way of trying to describe something as trendy...the new and now..kinda thing...I don't like the overkill either.
should we blame Justin Timerlake for "bringing Sexy back"?
