What Shampoo and Conditioner Do You Use on Your Child?

I have 2 kids. One is a 7-year old girl and the other a 5-year old boy. My 5-year old is using Suave Tear Free Shampoo. My daughter's hair has changed and it's time for her to move away from the tear-free shampoos. Plus she really needs conditioner. I am not worried about it getting in her eyes. She even washes her face with regular soap. So I bought her Herbal Essence. Well, she has sensitive skin and her ear started swelling and was real itchy. The skin on one of her cheeks got bumps and was also itchy. It happened after 2 or 3 uses of the Herbal Essence. So I went to the store to look for a fragrance free shampoo and conditioner. I couldn't find any. Or at least one for sensitive skin. I know it was the shampoo because it went away as soon as she stopped using it. So my question is, what does your child use on their hair that is not tear-free. Or has your child experienced this same reaction to shampoo? Thanks Moms :-)

Finding an unscented shampoo and conditioner is nearly impossible. I know because I tried for years. My scalp would itch and itch and itch if I used grocery/drug store shampoos. I kept 3 different bottles of shampoo and 3 bottles of conditioner in the shower so I could switch each day.

I started using salon shampoo and no more itchy head. I know the cost is over the top but the good thing is one liter bottle will last a year. I would go and buy a sample size bottle of shampoo and a sample size conditioner from a salon and try it to see if it works

I have prell with out conditioner. clear bottle green liquid. I have sensitivies to certain conditioners and I've found it works well. I've also used Aussie clean and clear. I can also use the conditioner for both of these brands with out to much issue. My 11 year olddaughter uses both. She alsouses the save adult shampoos. But I find if I use them to long they make my hair not as clean as I like

I have never used tear free shampoo on my kids. I buy California Baby, Aubrey Organics, Nature's Gate or any other brands that have safe ingredients.

Any shampoos like Herbal Essence, Suave, Garnier, etc. make my head bleed and make me miserable. Try using a brand without any parabens, sulfates or sulfites or petroleum.

My daughter needs conditioner too! My favorite is Nature's Gate, but the Tea Tree Tingle from Trader Joe's is pretty good too.
Good luck in your search!

Suave Naturals. Dye free, tear free, hypoallergenic, and they have shampoo and conditioner. Even though it's tear-free, you don't need to move away from it because they become a certain age. It's better for those with sensitive skin if it's tear-free. My daughter had eczema and sensitive skin, this product is great!!

my son (11) can only use California Baby sensitive baby. we need to transition him to something more adult so we're going to try Dr. Bronner's - it has only 3 or 4 ingredients and they have a scent free. but, it strips all the oil out of your hair so doesn't work well on girls w/longer hair.

you'll just have to experiment. I'd suggest trying the organic/natural products. your daughter most likely reacted to a preservative, PEG or paraben and those aren't in the organic/natural products.

my daughter (9) and I use Nature's Gate products. my daughter needed a heavier conditioner and has moved to Yes (cucumber currently). Both are sold by Target but Target has started only carrying a few of the Nature's Gate. Kroger in Colorado carries a pretty good selection. I'd expect Whole Foods would too. target carries dr. bronner too, again w/limited selection.

Opt for the Suave brand for her hair. Buy a shampoo and a separate conditioner. There is no need for buying high priced brands. We have used Suave for years and love it.

However, there is a product called Free and Clear that would be good to use. A little pricey, though. You can buy it on Amazon.

And by the way, Shampoo IS very important. If your child is very active, you will need it to clear out whatever gunk she has gotten into that day.

My kids are 5 year old girl and 8 year old boy. My daughter has fine hair a little past her shoulders and my son has thick shaggy hair. I buy regular suave shampoo and conditioner for them. I occasionally have to get my son to shampoo his hair twice. I think it's because it's so thick and he runs around and sweats. Both kids are pretty sensitive and have never had a reaction to Suave.

Maybe try some Aveeno shampoo and conditioner or maybe Dove brand.

I use Aveeno or Sauve body wash/shampoo (the one that is clear without dyes) on DD's hair and Dove conditioner after. DD has had sensitive skin issues before and the Dove is what her pediatrician suggested.

My SD is allergic to Herbal Essence, specifically the one for long, straight hair.

Johnson and Johnson has some that are for bigger kids with conditioner. They work great.

Adveno has the best ones for sensitive skin in my opinion.

Personally I don't think the shampoo is as important as the conditioner. I do use the Suave tear free with my youngest and a clarifying shampoo with my oldest. But if I want to be able to get a brush through their hair I use Infusium moisturizing conditioner on their hair.

I got tired of buying different shampoo & conditioner for everyone in the house, so now everyone uses what I use, Pureology. It is a vegan shampoo with no sulfates. Everyone's hair smells nice and looks beautiful. It is pricey, but after researching the difference between good quality shampoo and generic store brands and name brands for chain stores, it would take 10x as much to get your hair clean with anything that isn't salon certified. It may seem like I'm spending more initially, but it all ends up costing about the same. Pureology is concentrated shampoo so you don't need as much as you would of say Suave to get the job done. Just a lil dot goes a long way.

Tear free shampoo is really really hard on normal hair. It's mostly for baby hair but if you use it too long you will see even more cradle cap and dandruff like stuff since it dries hair out so much.

Use normal shampoo and conditioner on them, same as what you use or something cheap like Breck for kids or Suave. I used the shampoo/body wash stuff by Breck and the kids love it but the girls hair had too many tangles when all was said and done. I use pantene on her and almost always have.

There are all kinds of fragrances and herbs in those kinds of shampoos. Use just a regular shampoo without all the added stuff like Herbal Essence uses. You don't need herbs and almost milk and honey and all that other stuff, just normal shampoo and normal conditioner.

My kids are 7 and 4. They use Dove shampoo and conditioner. They have pretty sensitive skin and we havent had any problems.
I just switched to it as well. I love it, makes hair feel very clean, but moisturizes well without buildup.

I use the Suave kids' shampoo for my 3.5 yr old and then add an adult leave-in (Pantene) conditioner lightly to her hair after she gets out and I'm brushing her hair.
