What Is up with the Roly-poly Bugs!!!

So we moved to Fort Worth last September. This is our first summer here (but we've been in TX for 6 years total).

This last week, our home (renting) has been invaded by potato bugs (or roly-poly or pill bugs - whatever they are, the bugs that look like they have armadillo shells and curl up when they are scared). It has been VERY warm, though it had rained once a week for a few weeks. It's been in the upper 90's and just hit 102 yesterday. My son loves these bugs and will set them free outside (LOL).

They're harmless, and I am not grossed out by them. But I'm wondering, WHY is this happening? Is it the heat? Anything I can do to keep them out?

What can I do next?

I live up north but I still get bugs once in a while. I use a granulated insecticide in a spreader once a year on my yard. It helps a lot. My neighbor got some free compost several years ago and it was infested with earwigs. Unfortunately my yard was infested also. I spray when I find a nest or hiding place for them but the grandular stuff works well to get rid of a large variety of bugs.

You can use a seed or weed and feed spreader either hand held or walk behind.

They like dampness and soft soil. The heat has them scattering for cooler places.

I got those all the time in the house until I hired a lawn service to spray my grass. My lawn service comes out regularly to fertilize and spray the lawn for insects.

Pill bugs love damp spaces. I have never had a problem with them in the house, but here is a hot to article..

Maybe coming in from the garage.. or a window sill that needs to be sealed up? Or by a door leading to outside, that needs to be resealed?

I use to play with these guys all the time as kids. No more! We have two large dogs who poo in our back yard and one day I noticed something crawling covering them and thought it was flies at first but oh no it was rollie pollies!!! I could nto believe my sweet little buggy friends were "eating??" on turds!!! I was appauled ! Those preciouse buggies are not suppose to do anything nasty like that ever ! Just a heads up and they seem to be everywere in the spring time? I am guessing the loads of water brought them inside.

They are Rolly-Polly bugs....NOT potato bugs, potato bugs are ugly and scary looking! Ha!

~Sorry, not sure why it is happening. I grew up with them in CA but they were no big deal....ya know what was a big deal? Opening up your back door and seeing a sea of snails! Bmech!!

I get them every summer in Oklahoma. I just deal with it since it only lasts a few months. Spiders are a different story!
