So, taking a peek at Pinterest, I see all of these fancy nail polish styles. Some of them have one nail that is polished/decorated extra than the other nails on that hand. Most often it is the ring finger (of either or both hands) that is the nail that gets fancier design.

Is there any significance to why that finger gets fancier polish?? Anyone know?? I don't have the patience to regularly paint my nails, let alone all the fancy designs people do these days, but I was just wondering if there was a significance as to why THAT nail gets to be fancier? :-)

Happy Thursday, all! :-)

What can I do next?

because going back to the age of the romans the ring finger was called the fancy finger. People would hold their fancy fingers in the air like mini M. does it would signify respect, loyalty, and love, and thats how the middle finger became so bad...people started revolting and holding their middle fingers in the air in a disgusting manor as to mock the fancy fingerers....
I am quite proud that my six year old is taking to ancient times and keeping it real with the fancy finger!

The significance might be nothing more than that first-world women probably have more money than common sense, and a strong need/wish to be special. But 'special' has to be within the boundaries of what's in, or it's just plainly weird. So fashionistas and providers of fashion keep coming up with new ways to be special to keep us spending money. I can't help but wonder whether people of the future will have a more relaxed (maybe sane) idea of what's worth having.

Or..it's the ring finger and girls do it to show off their bling.

Much less interesting than Just M but probably the same thing!

"Oh, hey, look at me, I'm unique and original. See how different I am? Look, can't you tell? Are you looking yet?"

"I was doing that before it was cool."

Had each of my nails different when my daughter was younger. I did it to entertain my daughter. I would wiggle my fingers for her to grab at.

Now my daughter wears my color on one of her nails and I wear her color on one of mine when we do our nails.

Ah Peg, you crack me up!

My snarky comment: the significance of this is that they don't have to do hard work and get their nails dirty or broken. Must be a nice life!

(seriously-- I have NO idea about fashion these days. )

i am so far ahead of the trend.
for over a decade now i've done the pointy finger of my right (projective) hand a different color. it's my 'magic' finger. when the boys were little, it was the one i used to poink 'em when they got on my nerves. to this day all i have to do is aim it at 'em and they behave.
and i actually do use it energetically.
but i'm a weird chick.

In addition to the expainations already given I imagine that fingernail is the one that receives the least wear and tear so the fancy polish holds up better there.

It's the ring finger......you wanna show it off whether you have a ring or not, it is the finger that is less tattered by day to day things, and it just looks pretty. It's the trendy thing too, everybody from teens to grandmom's are doing it.
