What Is the Recovery like for Adenoids Removal?

Hi mamas,

My 28 month old son needs to have adenoids removed and tubes put in. This will be the second time around for the tubes, so I know what the recovery is like for that (very easy luckily), but I have no idea what recovery is like for adenoids surgery. I know that they are removed through the mouth, so imagine it is different.

If you have been through this with your kids, I would greatly appreciate your feedback... how they did afterwards, what worked to soothe them, etc

Thanks in advance

What can I do next?

I'm 36 now but mine were removed when I was 4. My parents told me I was OK that same day,.... some throat sore but I was happy because Dr said to have ice cream if I wanted... Good luck! N.

My 3.5 y/o had that done in July. Once the anesthesia wore off (within a few hours) he was fine! He was eating fine and back to his happy self that same day. He didn't even act like anything happened.

He did, however, get a throat infection a few days later from the breathing tube. But he got a shot of antibiotics and he started feeling better that same day. That bothered him more than the surgery.

Hi! My son (he's 6 now) had his adenoids removed when he was 4 1/2. He had tubes as well (6 times as they kept falling out quickly). Recovery for him was painless...in fact, we went out to eat lunch after his surgery and he ate like he normally did (mac/cheese, fries, chicken fingers, etc.). He wasn't limited at all and had no complications. Good luck!!

my daughter is 8 now - and at age 3 had her 2nd set of tubes & adenoids removed. from what i remember... the recovery was very easy. she had it done in the morning and i remember her eating chicken nuggets for lunch that day. she complained VERY little about her throat being sore. she had it done on a thursday and went back to daycare on monday. when she woke up from the anesthesia they gave her a popcycle and had a disney movie on and gave her a beanie baby to take home :-) she still has the beanie baby from when she was in the hospital.
