What Is the Best Way to Get Old Spots Out of Your Carpet?

Hello ladies! I am in the middle of turning one of my bedrooms into my new office. I have already painted the walls. Since I have everything out of the room I decided that I will clean the carpet before putting all of my furniture in the room. The carpet is a light beige. I had a can of carpet cleaner that I sprayed on & will vacuum up. I really doubt that this is going to get all of the spots up. They are probably mainly from juice from when the girls were smaller since this was their playroom before. I was just wondering if anyone has something that really works for them. Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies! Marcie, I also read about Simple Green earlier today. I tried it on one of the spots & it seems to have worked. I will be trying it on the rest of the carpet tonight so I guess we will see if it gets all the spots out. Wish me luck!
Last night I scrubbed my carpet on my hands & knees with the Simple Green. I let it dry overnight & vacuumed this morning. My carpet looks brand new!! Woo Hoo!!

Straight-up hydrogen peroxide has done a world of good for my carpets. Even really old stains have fled in fear of it.

I have the most luck with a product called Simple Green. You can get it at Wal-mart. I think it is usually in the automotive section. It is great for cleaning everything, but works wonders on the carpet. I even got old grease stains out of the carpet in our truck with it. Just spray it on (full strength or diluted), use a scrub brush to work it in, and soak it up with a rag. I also use it in my carpet steamer.

Green alcohol from the pharmacy will take any stains out of your carpet. You can mix it with water and use it in a shampooer, or pour it directly onto the stain and blot it up with a towel. It makes the room smell great, too!

I love renting a Rug Doctor from Lowes. It isn't expensive and works so well. Get the cleaning solutions with the rental, you won't be disappointed! I have used it not only for all of my carpets but also my area rugs. Good luck!

I use Grease Lighting. It will not harm anything and it's not over bearing with a smell at all. IT WORKS. Just activate it with a little water. The way I do it is I get the carpet wet, just a little, and then spray the Grease Lighting on it and let it set for a few minutes. Then use a clean light rag and scrub it up. I have taken out grease to candle wax with this stuff. If you read it, you will see that you can use it in your Laundry too. You can get it at Wal-Mart and at Dollar General. Hope this helps.

I used a can of very inexpensive shave cream. (Barbasol) Some real bad spots took a couple applications & scrubbings with a brush. Let it dry & vacuum. You'll be surprised what a $1.00 can of shave cream can do. It's great on shower doors too.

Hi A.,

I used a cleaner called Blue Magic to get oil stains out of my mini van as well as some other unidentifiable stains that looked like rust or something. My husband used the minivan which was a third vehicle to haul any and everything until I was pregnant and I had to clean it up to use because I could no longer get in and out of my little car. I finally got a new car after baby came but the carpet still looks good in that old van! The cleaner only cost about 3 bucks at Wal Mart and you can find it in the car cleaning stuff. Good luck!
