What Is It like When You Are Hormonal?

I am starting to wonder if maybe my physical and emotional symptoms are hormonal? I am not sure if I am referring to PMS symptoms or some other hormone.

If you have symptoms of PMS that are bothersome, what are they? I am trying to make sense of why I feel the way I do.

Some of my symptoms are:

Irritability
Exhaustion
Fatigue
Feeling unhappy
Sluggish
Feeling easily overwhelmed
Feeling hopeless at times

They are not all month. I am not depressed throughout the month.

Any experience is welcomed.

Thanks!

I actually have several bouts during the month, pre- and post-ovulation, then pre-menstraul. Day 11, day 18, day 24 out of my 32 day cycle are the worst for me. I find that keeping track helps tremendously, if I see that it's a target day then I go easier on myself and can expect the worst. it also helps me to separate myself from the feelings in a way, knowing that I'm reacting a certain way not because I'm truly unhappy or have a genuine problem to face, but because I have chemicals coursing through me that are affecting my mood and energy.

I went on Lexapro a few years ago at the suggestion of my OB/GYN, and it helped for awhile, but I gained weight, my sexual drive plummeted, and seemed to stop working altogether after 2 years. Not worth it for me, and it was really hard to get off it. So I want to go natural, look into herbs and vitamins, but not sure where to start (nutritionist? Ayervedic? Chinese medicine?). I have read about calcium/vitamin D/magnesium helping, but I'm terrible about taking anything daily so I can't report back on that.

personally I think that hormones are incredibly potent chemicals that many doctors don't really understand. They change after kids and as we age, and sensitivity can absolutely get worse over time. I know it's worse for me now than ever.

Oh yes. After my second I get PMS so much worse than I ever did in my life. I am normally not a crier, and I pride myself on my patience. Not when I have PMS, though. I'm a crying mess, and just this morning I told my daughter to "shut up" which is horrifying and so out of character (I apologized, of course). I also get so so so tired, I feel like I could sleep for days. So you could be experiencing bad PMS. I'll check back to see if anyone has any ideas for what to do about it!

For about a week and half out of the month I just want to cry at EVERYTHING and I can't even stand to hear my own thoughts let alone imagine what I actually say. I mean I tell the girls at work to simply not talk to me because I worry I might say something to hurt their feelings. seriously, I cuss people out in my head for two weeks straight just about and all they have to do is walk past me and not say hi...or say hi...it doesn't matter.
During that time I do the bare min. and get mad at myself for not having energy.
I was told that giving into cravings makes it worse...to lay off caffine, chocolate and high sugar things. I can't take birth control of any sort b/c of genetic blood clotting issues. So I've been told to pretty much just deal with it.

Sounds like PMS....

I get like that.... at PMS times, and at Ovulation times.
It is because the body's hormones are fluctuating at these times.
And it makes for a lot of emotional upheaval.

There are some natural things that can help or at least helps some:

"Happy Camper" which are pills, Whole Foods has it.
"Hyland's Calms Forte for Adults."
"Natural Calm" here is the link: http://www.amazon.com/Natural-Vitality-Calm-Rasp-Lemon-po...

all the best,

My symptoms are:

Nausea
Crying or just a feeling of sadness
Bloating
Pain in back and stomach
Sleepiness

I am sure it is all PMS related.... but you also have have just stated the symptoms of depression. Do you feel this way all month or just a week or two before your period? If it is all the time, you may need to see a doctor. Not only could it be depression, it could be thyroid problems.
Good luck!

I agree that what you're describing is related to hormones. For a few days before and during my period I feel the exact same way, and it's something I've just dealt with. I did recently change birth control pills and it seems to have helped. Call your doctor, I'm sure they can suggest something.

Are you sleeping good at night? Are you taking any supplements to support the nutrients that you are not getting? Do you drink good water everyday? All of this is important as it effects how you feel if any of this is not balanced.
Let me know if you want to learn more on how to get your body balanced and feel good everyday.

Have a good day.

Around the time of my period I get irritable and cranky, I cry more easily, feel tired and sore, and get headaches. But I'm talking a couple days to a week tops. What you describe sounds like PMS, but it could also be PMDD (pre menstrual dysphoric disorder), which is more serious and there are medications that can help. Definitely make an appointment to discuss this with your doctor, don't wait, you don't have to live like this!
