Hi moms! I would like to know if microdermabrasion (SP????) is safe during pregnancy, I just found out I'm pregnant AGAIN and I was ready to have that done, is it safe, or do I have to wait? if is not safe, what can I do to control the acne? I just have no idea what to do to improve my skin, I did Obagy after having my 2dn baby and worked awesome for me, but one of the creams has retinol A, so I know that will not work for now,is there anything safe and effective to control the acne during pregnancy? Thanks for your time!!!!

What can I do next?

I have great success with proactiv. It can be ordered and shipped to you. I have also seen it sold at one of those carts in the middle of the mall (Arrowhead). I order it through the mail. Good luck.

Hi Marisela -

Just remember - anything you put on your skin goes into your blood stream. Anything that goes into your blood stream goes directly to your baby.

my friend is an estitician, and they are trained in what you can and can't do during pregnancy. And she did a microderm on me when I was preg and she said it was fine. And I would hope any estitician would be educated in what is ok. On another note, what also helped me with the first trimester acne I had (it went away for the rest of the preg) was liquid bentonite clay taken internally (I think I found it online at iherb.com), which helps to absorb the extra hormones. It also helps with the nausea which is originally why I took it. Just make sure you are pooping tho, b/c it can stop you up a little. extra magnesium helps with that. which is also fine to take while preg. (I am a healthcare practitioner, so I know of what I speak).

I had the same problem when I was pregnant and found out the main reason is once you become pregnant your body has a difficult time ridding itself of all the toxins we are exposed to. Shaklee has fabulous products that help detoxify your body naturally and a skin care system that was rated number one in Parade Magazine. I'd be more than happy to give you a free deep cleansing facial and an in home demonstration. Check out my website: www.shaklee.net/denisefriedl
Hope you find what works for you! Take care.

Hi Marisela,
It might sound funny or too simple, but we got this information from a friend and tried it. It really works, after washing your face at night put a small dot of white paste, not gel, tooth paste on the zit and it will be gone by morning. Wash the tooth past off in the AM and your good to go. It even works on big ugly white heads.
Good luck, M.

M. Kay makes a great product for microderm abraision. I don't know much about the dr kind though - the people doing it should know if it is okay.

La Roche-Posay carries a line of acne products w/out retionol. There's also different kind of facial peels that can help as well.

I am pretty sure it is safe because it is just topical. Oxy 10 has a good spot treatment. The only thing that helped my acne was moving to a dry climate. Now it is pratcically gone.

There is also this stuff called Acnexus that contains all natural ingredients and this stuff is awesome. It really cleans the skin and even got rid of my cistular acne bumps. I think I got two bottles of it for $25 on the internet.

I feel your pain. I have had bad skin since I hit puberty and nothing seemed to help.

I hope you find something that works for you.

Just make sure whatever you do you don't get any vitamin A - not good for you when you are pregnant and a lot of face creams and treatments have it.

This is what I do. I take a little baking soda and wet it with water. It is like an all natural scrub. Massage into your skin and rinse. Take a hot/warm (whatever is the hottest you can stand) and leave on the face until cold. I then put on some moisturizer. Also you can try the oil cleansing method to wash your face, it might work for you. I do love to use that because my face is less shiny and my acne is reduced, but that is me.

I'm pretty sure microdermabasion is safe during pregnancy. I would just make sure that none of the creams they use during or after contain vitamin A. The salon/spa should be able to tell you that info if you call beforehand and ask. My OB told me that salicylic acid was safe for topical treatments so I used the WalMart generic for Oxy10. It worked well enough. I made sure to exfoliate my face, neck, and shoulders when I showered. (I got terrible back acne with both of my pregnancies.) The St. Ives Acne Control Apricot Scrub worked so well I've continued using it after pregnancy. Both products are inexpensive (under $5).

The medspa that I go to will not do the microderm now that I am pregnant. I am using the Obagi Clenziderm M.D. Acne Therapeautic System http://cgi.ebay.com/Obagi-Clenziderm-M-D-Acne-System-NEW-... and it works well. The spa checked out the level of benzol peroxide and said it is appropriate for a pregnant woman to use. My ob ok'd it too. Anyway, the pricesa are MUCH less on ebay for this product than to buy in a salon/spa. Good luck!

Hi Marisela,
If you want to go a bit more natural w/o thinning your skin out anymore (Obagy is great but it thins the skin like crazy!)
Arbonne carries a wonderful safe line for acne w/ salicylic acid . I became a rep after loving the products so much! I even have a set on my shelf that I purchased for my sister but she has plenty left & wont need it for a couple of months. (I didnt realize she had just bought some..It lasts a few months easily & isnt pricey at all).
It's yours at cost, 35% off retail, just to help you out & take it off my hands if your interested! E-mail me & I'll get back to you asap.
