Cutco are really high quality knives. However, if you don't want them, do not feel bad about politely declining after the presentation. It sounds like the girl is just looking for some presentation practice.
I have a friends little girl (all grown up now)that wants to come today and do a knife demo. at three. She said she would get paid for my listening I do not have to buy anything. I don't want to hurt this girls feelings but don't really need a set of knives either. Do you know anything about this Cut CO. and is there any way to get out of buying usless kives that I don't need? Thanks, K. K.

My dad just bought a set of Cut Co knives. They are very high quality and pretty expensive. The catch is that you need to go through the in-home demo — it's an old-school salesman type approach where they demo the product in your home. It's not something that I'm personally comfortable with but my dad was helping out a friend and he knew the guy doing the demo. He's been extremely happy with the product though so it was a win/win.
My sister used to sell the knives decades ago. Practice is one thing, but she probably is hoping to convince you to buy a knife. I don't think they get paid just for giving demos. If you are not good at saying no, you should go to her house, so that your friend is around, and let her "practice" the demo.
They are awesome knives. I have been putting off buying them for a couple of years now just becuase they are pricey. My sister has them and my parents. Everytime I use theirs I tell myself I'm going to splurg. I keep buying knives that dull even after you sharpen them after a few times. Cut-Co stay sharp for a long time. You could start with the smaller set like I am. I can't wait to get mine.!!!! You will absolutely LOVE them!
They really do get paid for each demonstration they do, whether or not people believe that. Now sitting through the demonostration is another issue. I have sat through two, and the last time I felt like I should buy a knife. Just one mind you, but that is the sharpest knife I ever owned! My husband ended up in urgent care, I almost ended up in urgent care, and luckily we still have all of our fingers (lol). We now have special rules about the Cutco knife. Good luck, hope this helps with the decision.
I love ours also - definitely my favorite knives, but are very expensive. They will sharpen and replace them for free for life though (we had one break a tip, they sent us a new one, no problem).
The son of a friend of ours did the demos - apparently they do get some credit for just doing the demo, so you don't have to feel bad about not buying anything.
Hi K. -- I use high-end knives daily (mostly Wustohf and Henkels) but got suckered into a Cutco demo a few years ago. I ended up purchasing a couple of Cutco knives (mostly serrated ones that weren't like any others I had). I also purchased a spreader/sandwich knife for me and an ice cream scoop for my inlaws. Needless to say, I've purchased several of the spreaders and ice cream scoops as gifts since then because they are so great. They are also less expensive than the knives so might be a good alternative if you feel like you need to buy something for your friend's daughter's time. However, I wouldn't feel obligated especially after she's told you not to.
I've only gotten one unsolicitied call from the Cutco rep in three years and she was calling to see if I needed my knives sharpened. Of course, once she is at my house she wants to show me all the knives again and make her pitch.
Very expensive knives! I had a friend's daughter come to my house as well to give me the sell. I wasn't going to buy anything but I wanted to help her out in some way as she was trying to earn money for college. I bought one for like $80.00 for my husband for father's day. He doesn't like it all, but it's my total favorite knife. Wish I could afford to buy a set.
Actually Cutco knives are pretty awesome. I got a full set as a wedding gift 14 years ago, get them sharpened for free every year and they're the kind of knives you leave to your kids in your will. They're super expensive, so if you don't need knives, certainly don't buy any (and really, if I hadn't gotten them as a gift, I wouldn't buy them, either, they're THAT expensive, but I am really, REALLY happy I got them as a gift). But if you do need a new knife set, you won't go wrong with Cutco. They also replace any knife for free if something should happen to it. I've had 3 of my steak knives replaced. My paring knife's tip broke off when I used it to do something stupid with a block of frozen stew (totally my fault) and they replaced it for free, so I have a new paring knife, too. All in all, I've been really happy with them.
