When I was in elementary school after dismissal we not allowed to touch the snow. We were only rebuked if we were near the school and an employee member saw. It was AFTER school. Why did this rule exist. Does it/did it exist in your/your child's school.

What is snow? I have never seen "real snow".
Here if here is snow there is no school.
I've never heard of it, but I would support it.
My first thought was that kids would be throwing it at each other and someone could easily get hurt. It could also easily turn into a bullying issue. There's also the possiblity that snowballs may have been thrown at cars.
Also, it doesn't matter what time of time it is. What matters is that it takes place on school property.

Probably because, even if it is after school.... the school will still be liable for the children, while they are still on campus.
For whatever reason... they school doesn't like snow nor the kids touching it.
Do you mean, touching the snow or playing in it?

I've NEVER heard of this rule. I can only think that someone once got hurt by it and their parents ended up suing the school district so a rule was made not to allow children to touch the snow.
No rule like this exists in our school district. Maybe it's time for a change and you can get with the school board to get it removed.
yes.. a nearby school in michigan has this rule. a friend who teaches there told me the principal says.. kids cannot touch snow at recess.
I think that's kinda dumb really. Not be allowed to touch the snow? Man--that's strick! When I was in school, if you didn't have snow pants and/or boots, you were not allowed to get into the snow. Not being able to touch snow if way too strict and not right. My son's school won't let the kids out at their only recess when it's wet out even if they have snow gear. And they get just one recess--can you believe that? Waaaay weird.
Yes, that's the rule today. I know it sounds stupid, and I can remember being a kid and all of us playing on a snow bank in the playground. It was fun. We made a slide to go down and played king of the hill. Kids are different and parents are different now. Schools have to be careful of law suits and snow can be dangerous, so they are trying to thwart off any possibilities of kids getting carried away with the awesomeness of snow. One thing is that they might start throwing snowballs and a snowball fight is very hard to stop when you need them to get on the bus. Then there's the possiblity of snow having some ice in it and some kid getting a cut on the face by the ice or a car wind sheild being broken. Then you have the ice melt chemicals that are used to clear the parking/walking areas.
Well, where I live in Canada it would be impossible not to touch snow for at least five months of the year!!! There is snow everywhere! Piles and piles of it!

When I was young and now at my son's school, after school was the BEST time to play in the snow!
