Keep it a numbers game. Percentages and such, or how things went from black to red.
And
If you can say "my team and I" or "the team I headed" accomplished this and that, it would sound less conceited I suppose?

I always keep it results oriented and guess what - If I did what I was supposed to and did a damn fine job at it - I toot my horn - LOL!
I also keep it focused not on me, per se, but what the contribution meant to the company.
In terms of pumping myself up - I guess I don't, but I do practice my key points in the shower - may be too late for that, now. . .

Get all dressed/make-up as you would at the meeting... and talk to yourself in the mirror. Say encouraging and motivational things, pump up yourself with yourself :)

Make a list of your accomplishments over the year... pick the 3 most amazing and be prepared to discuss them in detail, including the process/planning/your role specifically. If they ask for more, then you have already put some thought into it and can answer candidly.

Good luck!

Or how great you are in bed with hubby...just wouldn't be appropriate ..LOL!

I use to journal extraordinary things I did in the workplace. I would say smile with confidence and after thank your manager for the compliments AND constructive criticism. I use to ALWAYS bring up a challenge that I had with someone or something, but always had the solution figured out to "mitigate" the weakness/ issue. You gotta BS a little to appease them ;) good luck!

I listen to 'Hurricanes and Butterflies' by Muse... totally gets me in the zone.

Ironically, this is also the song my husband used to listen to when he was training for UFC forever ago, just before a big fight ;)

YOU ROCK!!! Go to the bathroom and look in the mirror and tell yourself how much YOU ROCK!!!!

you can humbly go in and tell the boss all the things you do and do well...it's okay to point out a short-coming - we're not perfect - but you do your job and then some!!!

YOU WILL ROCK THE EVAL!!!!

I think about all of the projects that I helped out on. Or how I helped 'save' this or that.

I would just focus on the true value that you bring to the company or firm. Think through all the ways that your "overhead" costs to the company are justified, and then some.

It used to help me to think of myself as a product - one that was a great value! :P

You'll do great S.! And I would give you a raise based on your Mamapedia advice alone. :P

You are your own best PR person. Noone knows how hard you work, but you. This is your chance to sell yourself and list your own best attributes. Start with last years eval. Whatever things they asked you to focus on, show ways you improved in those areas. Then move on to this years kudos. Did you make any great saves this year? Any ideas of yours get implemented? Has the perfomance record in your area improved? What new skills or training did you aqcuire? Is there a next step promotion you want? If so, talk yourself up in that type of role. For instance if you want to be team leader, talk about specific things you did to improve the teams efficiency and times when you took on a leadership role.

I'm guessing that since you're an attorney, you are used to speaking calmly, intelligently, and confidently in front of people, although I know it's a different ballgame when you have to talk about yourself.

But that said, for me, the biggest part of the battle is staying calm. If I'm calm, I'm focused, and if I'm focused, I can think on my toes, and I can present myself well.

So my advice to you is to do what you'd normally do to get in a calm state. And once you're relaxed, you'll do just fine.

BON CHANCE!!
