What Class Should a 27 Month Old Join - or Should They?

My 27 month old daughter stays home with me during the day with her 7 month old sister. While I think she is learning very well and enjoys being around other kids when we have play dates, I think she should be involved in some kid of activity (without sissy). My husband took her to a dance class yesterday. They said they teach 18 month olds and up dance including jazz and tap. When we got to the class the youngest little girl in the class of 6 was 4 years old, and so needless to say my daughter was not into the class at all. She always seemed to enjoy dancing, but made it through only 20min's of the class, dancing with herself and then wanted to go home.

Next week we are taking her to a gymboree play and learn class for kids her age. It is a 45min class once a week. Can anyone tell me thier thoughts on a Gymboree class before I make my husband go all over north Denver trying free trial classes that might work, or is 2 just a hard age to get them involved in classes???

What can I do next?

My kids loved Music Together. They danced, played instruments and many other things. When my daughter was born my son loved having her come so he could show her his music class.

I think this is a great age to teach them to listen to a teacher, follow directions and involve them around their peers! I see you are in Broomfield, Call Paul Dedra or look up online, THEY ARE AWESOME! They have a great tumbling class for kids that age. They have a lot more age appropriate things to do!!! Very reasonable in pricing moreson then the other chain gym places.

At that age my daughter did dance, gymnastics (gymboree is way over priced, call your local rec center as they have age appropriate classes A LOT less expensive). Then we started swim lessons where I went in with her. A great age to get them used to the water, comfortable learning and they are sponges right now.
Even a age appropriate art class too. Call your local rec center as they usually have numerous classes offered for kids at that age.
I also put my daughter in a MOMS day out program, where every Friday from nine to noon she was in a "class" so to speak, kind of a break for me since I had her brother with me and I could get errands ran with just one and she gained a bunch of independence and made great friends early on.

I did this for my 2 year old because her sister was in preschool and I felt she needed some social interactions. I enrolled her in a toddler music class. They sing songs, "play instruments" and dance around. They are all over town. I would check out the local rec center and see if they have such classes. They are set for toddlers and encourage participation but don't require it.

The Erie Rec Center has a 2yr old, DROP-OFF, gymnastics class that has been awesome for my son... and a nice 45min break for me! I have 3 friends (all with kids the same age) and all their kids love it as well. I would imagine they would have something like this in your area. Or... what about a music class since your daughter likes dancing?!? Good luck!

Gymboree classes are great and geared towards the age level of the class, but they are VERY expensive. I took my daughter to a gymnastics class at the Broomfield Rec Center and she loved it. Lots of running, jumping and playing. Most Rec Centers have gymnastics or music classes for toddlers for reasonable prices.

Good luck!

My daughter (24 months old) loves Music Together. The price is reasonable (15% off if you have Moxie Moms) and her love for music has become really fun to watch. They also dance, play instruments, run around during class-it's very active. I know they have class in Broomfield. Check out www.mountainsongmusic.com. You can try out a class for free and I know classes start again in a couple of weeks. It's always nice to start with the same parents/children. We also just started soccer tots in Boulder, which is fun for my daughter to run around, but EXHAUSTING for me. Have fun!

I have an 19 month old. She truly enjoys the gymboree play and learn class - the location is not ideal for us, but we make it work. A class I would truly recommend is Music Together. They have multiple class locations and my daughter absolutely loves it. The age ranges for the mixed group are infant - 4 years. Most of the kids in her class are her age or older. Their website is http://www.twinkletogether.com/. Good luck!

Hi, I have a 2 1/2 year old little guy and we have been in classes since he was 4 mos old. Mostly so I could have a reason to get out of my jammies and see other adults. However, my son quickly learned to love all of the classes we have joined. His favorite is music class. We do Music Together, but there are tons out there. He has done a swimming class (Safe Splash and StarFish), a cooking class (Sticky Fingers), gymnastics class (Dardano's), a soccer class (Bladium), and he goes to a Parents Day Out Program. We obviously don't do all of these classes all of the time. But he has enjoyed all of the classes and they were all geared towards children his own age.
We did try one free class at Gymboree. My son wasn't to into, he preferred Dardano's gymnastics class that was less structured and he could just run around!!
I hope this helps

We have our 26 month old in a tumbling class through the local rec center. The classes are divided by age groups, with 2 to 3 year olds together. He has been taking this class for the last year, originally with the 12 to 24 month group. (Thornton)

We also have him in a music class specifically for 2 to 3 year olds that he loves. The instructor use to do gymboree but is now working through a local church. Which is much more affordable.

Hope these suggestions help. Good Luck!

My 26 month old is in a gymboree play and learn class. We love it! It has music and they have theme based every week like bugs, and breakfast items for example. It's huge gym which allows my kids to roam around. We also have time sometimes to go to the free play bc they have like 7 you can go per month. I pay an extra $5 each time if I brought my 16 month old too. We are actually going to be going to one today. We are at the one on Iliff and Wabash. I say do it bc it is fun!!
