My fiance's birthday was a bust this year, so I'd like to make it up to him on Father's Day. This year for Mothers Day, I sent all the moms (MIL, step MIL, my mom, my grandmother, my godmother) cards, and finally, for the first time since having kids, actually made it MY day, so we're doing this for Fathers Day as well, except for my fiance :) Do you do anything for your man, or do you reserve that for YOUR dad? Do you help your kids spoil their father? What are you doing this year for Fathers Day?
We usually send cards and a small gift to all the grandpa's and uncles in the family and then we spend the day together with just us. Hubby gets to pick what we do :) usually fishing! Unfortunately, this year he has to work all day. I will get him a gift from the kids and we will have his favorite meal ready for him when he gets home and then he'll get to spend the evening doing nothing but what he wants (meaning no chores!).

I usually get a cute little card, get my son dirty with some finger paint and put a hand print on the left side of the card, so each year he gets a card, the hand will get bigger and bigger.
Usually breakfast in bed a card and a treat (6 pack of beer or beef jerkey or both)
We dont like to spend too much cash on such occasions, we reserve that for our vacations or family time together... its the thought that counts.

Great question! I have already been thinking about this, too.
This year my plans so far are to:
- let my husband sleep in, as late as he wants, no exceptions. He will probably sleep until noon, so that takes up much of the day!
- get him a gift card for clothes. He rarely buys things for himself and he needs them, so getting him a gift card for a certain store will force him to spend the money there and on himself.
- I will cook all day for him, but I usually do that anyway so I am not sure he will consider that something special!
- I will wait on him - get his drinks for him, not let the kids bother him while he watches his games, that kind of thing.
I think most husbands, whether they admit it or not, want to not be a father for a little while on father's day. Moms are just the opposite!
For my father and father in law, I just send cards and make phone calls.

Oh just wait until after father's day when the complaining starts again on this site! So many women will get all bent out of shape that dad just wanted to go golfing or sit around the house and not do anything out of the ordinary, or they'll complain that dad didn't spend any time with the kids. It isn't kids day - it's Father's Day, so whatever he wants is what we will do.
To answer your question, for Father's Day I will be sending my father a card and asking my husband what he wants me and the kids to do. Whatever he wants to do, that's what we will do. For Mother's Day I just wanted to sleep in - and it was done.
My husband and I are pretty good at clearly communicating our needs and wants, so I'll simply ask him. I won't assume that he wants some craft made of popsicle sticks or macaroni noodles. I won't assume that he wants expensive bling. I won't get him a gift that *I* think he wants or that *I* think is cute or would want for Mother's Day. I'll ask him for ideas.

My DH always likes to go boating provided the weather cooperates. We've been doing this for the last several years on Father's day. Then a barbeque later. Pretty low key. :) Of course I do the nice cards and sometimes a gift.

I try to do something special for my hubby. Last year, I bought him an engraved picture frame and put a pic of my son and him in it. This year, I had a mug made that has a collage of pictures of our kids on it. Of course, I'm a photographer and have tons of pics to do this with. But, I'm sure snap shots would be just as cute though. And lots of places sell the coffee mugs.
I also like the idea that one mom mentioned below - of putting hand prints on the card each year. I might borrow that idea as well!
We're not real big on celebrating this kind of stuff. But a little something goes a long way!

What? We have to get them something else besides sex??? LOL
I am dressing my kid up in different sports outfits...football, golf, baseball and soccer, holding the respective balls and equipment. I plan on printing out a collage picture, framing it and giving it to my man so he can hang it in his office.
Tehre are some great ideas here though!

Well my husband just pissed me off pretty good, so right now, nothing :).
I'm sure I'll calm down by June 19th though, so maybe I'll give him the free reigns to join his softball team in Florida in August without complaining.

I think each family has a right to celebrate their own way.
We treat Dad special. Breakfast in bed is a possibility. He certainly could play golf if he likes, but only part of the day. If there is a special sporting event on t.v..... we give him his space.
We WOULD expect time together kids/Dad. That's what it means to us.... father and kids bonding in some way to express appreciation of being a family. Dad gets to pick what he wants for dinner or if he wants to go out. We generally do something ALL together. Be it a movie video or a picnic..... doesn't matter. The kids get Dad a card and some other token. I do the same to show him I appreciate him as a good Dad.
We generally have a meal with my Dad or stop by and take him a gift and card. We honor him too.

We usually get my husband some kind of electronic and/or gaming accessory and dinner. Sometimes I have something delivered to his place of work. I always encourage him to do whatever he wants from going fishing to hanging with his friends to do an activity on that weekend.
As far as my own father, he passed away before Christmas, but I usually gave him a gift card, cd, gift basket...etc.

I love Father's Day! We will be making cards for my husband, my dad and my FIL and since they all love baked goods, I will be baking up a storm.
The kids and I will pick something out for my husband together and hopefully we can go on a hike and a picnic.
We like low key gifts and all out merriment on our holidays! :)

Hubby works weekends so we won't be doing anything ON Father's Day but my sister and I are going to take my dad and hubby out to see the new Transformers. It'll be a few weeks late but that is our 'gift' to them. On the actual day, we'll probably make and clean up lunch or dinner for my dad.

I don't have a dad so my hubby is the "man of the house". We always ask each other before a holiday what we want. I already asked him and he said "chocolate and a bj". Lololololol!!! No prob...but I told him he doesn't have to wait til FD! Ha!!!
