IMO Hawaiian king rolls are the best store bought rolls for everything.
A lot depends on what you're going to be putting on the beef. If you're going with a spicy horseradish or mustard sauce, or a strong cheese, or a spicy chutney or pepper mixture, I'd suggest a neutral roll, a dinner roll as others have suggested below.
If the beef is the star, and you're keeping things simple as far as toppings, then the Hawaiian roll is a nice choice. It's slightly sweet but not sugary sweet like a dessert roll. It's subtle.
I prefer the Hawaiin ones.
There are some yeast rolls by Rhodes in the frozen section that are not bad.
Hawaiin are still favorites here. They have sliders now as well as burger and hot dog buns!!!
Welcome to mamapedia, B.!
it all depends upon YOUR tastes and what you want - sweet or something that will stand up to liquid from the meat...
Kings Hawaiian are sweet and really good.
Harris Teeter - a local grocery chain here in DC - has some great rolls too. Check with your LOCAL chain. Ask for samples from their bakery department. Tell them what you are looking for and go from there.
The best store bought rolls are Rhodes - hands down. One of the kids in the family always says when she comes over "Do you have the yummy rolls"? They are a little hard to find but I know Walmart has them. The only thing with them is that they come as "raw dough rolls" but all you have to do is put them on a cookie sheet and cover them with a kitchen towel and let them rise for a few hours - and then bake them - but they are so worth it and have that home-made taste that you won't find in any other roll unless you make your own from scratch rolls which noone wants to do.
