I have a 10 month old and we feed him oatmael w/fruit (level 2) in the morning, then a 8oz. bottle about 2 hours later than nap.
then another 8 oz. bottle when nap is over than for dinner he has oatmeal, 1/2
fruit(size 2) than 1 whole (size2) veggie.
than right before bed he has another 8 oz bottle. That's it!
Most of the time those 8 oz. bottles only about 6oz. gets in his tummyt.

He has great weight but i am sure the same food is getting old.
His doctor told me no meat till he is 1 years old.

What can i do to give him a change?
even a little change at night would be great.

We already add juice in with the oatmeal so what else is there?

THANKS, T.

What can I do next?

You seem to be doing great. I couldn't get my kids to eat that much oatmeal or veggies, but if his weight is fine and he is satisfied with what he is eating, then I wouldn't worry. As for the meats, I think doctors steer us from those products because they are harder to digest and may cause constipation. The baby is getting plenty of protien from the veggies and his formula.

My baby girl is 9 months old. We have Dr. Prine at Premier MEdical...I HIGHLY recommend him! You might just wanna call there and make an apt. ###-###-####. Every baby is different and your doctor maybe great...but mine is also a Christian...and to me...I would rather the person treating my child be getting his wisdom from the ultimate physician! J..

T.,

How much your child eats needs to be left up to him. You are his mom. You know when your child is full or if he is still hungry. Don't let people tell you what and how much he needs at his age. you know best. My last ped told me the same thing, but she also said.. "i have to tell you this because its my job. If my baby was hungry after he ate X amount, then feed him or her some more." Like you say.. you are sure the same things get boring. If you don't feel comfy about giving your baby the chicken and rice baby food, try giving him some mashed potatoes that you cook for supper. or mash up green beans or other veggies that you normally would cook that are seasoned. As you also know baby food gets expensive. Change up. He is 10 months old. He can eat just about anything that is soft (mashed potatoes, veggies, inside of bread, etc) Just watch him while he eats (not saying you don't) and then make sure he isn't going to have an allergic reaction to something he just ate. Try 1 new fruit or veggie a day that way you can tell if he will be allergic or not. My youngest son is allergic to plums and within 10 minutes of eating some when he was about 9 months old, he broke out in what looked like a heat rash all over his body.

Good Luck and if you have any questions, please feel free to message me here or email ____@____.com.

At 10 months old, my son was a big eater. He had 3 jars at every meal of the stage 2. I would definately introduce more vegetables into his diet. When he wakes up from his nap, rather than give him another bottle - this should be his lunch. Its time for more veggies. I would give my son more variety and sometimes he would have a stage 2 mixed meal - spaghetti, chicken w/ veggies, etc. He loved all of that. I think maybe your doctor meant not to give him regular meat that we eat, not the kind that is in stage 2 jars that are easy for them to eat (without chewing too much). Also, try giving him a cracker, some Gerber puffs, raisins cut in half, etc. for a snack. Hope this helps!

Hi T.. I have 2 girls 13 & 8. I know ALL the books and Doctors say how and when to feed your child. I really think most of them dont even have kids. Both of my girls was on cereal in there milk at 3wks old. The breast milk just wasnt enough for them. By the time they were 8 months I was feeding some table food along with baby veggies and fruits. I think you are doing a great job and if he is not fussing due to being hungrey dont change a thing. At meal times just add alittle more different things to his meal. I wouldnt try to much. See how he handles it and if there is no belly aches go for it.

Hi there! I have a daughter who is 14 months old. We had her on regular food before her first birthday. If he has teeth I'd try giving him scrambled eggs, or bits of pancake. She loves yogurt. I buy the kids brand. She also likes ramen noodles with a little bit of the flavoring added. Hope this helps a little bit!

I have an 8 month old littlt girl. She eats whatever we are eating usually. I am breastfeeding, so what we do... When she wakes up I give her milk. When we sit down to breakfast she has cereal, yogurt (yo baby), cheerios, or a banana (mashed or pieces). I then usually give her milk again to was it down. At lunch she either eats mac and cheese, fruit or veggies. I give her milk again usually twice in the afternoon. Then whatever we are having for dinner, chicken, turkey, pasta, veggies. I just make sure it is small wnough for her to eat. You can also try the gerber puffs.

By 10 months most babies can handle any food they can chew (as long as they have some teeth, mine didn't). Pastas like macaroni, spaghetti, ramen noodles. My little boy loved yogurt at that age. Be careful of meats and eggs. Some kids don't have a problem with them, but their digestive system isn't fully developed until about a year old, so the proteins in meats and eggs are harder for them to digest. It won't hurt him at all, but could give him a tummy ache, constipation, or diarrhea. Like I said, most kids don't have a problem with it by 10 months, but there's always potential. My little one loves soups too, even if he just gets a spoonful of the broth/sauce. If he doesn't have teeth, you can always soften cracker is some chicken or beef broth and let him try those (try the crackers that don't have salt, too much sodium isn't good for them, or anyone for that matter). Anyway, I hope this at least gives you some ideas. I was a little skiddish about giving my son new foods too, but there's not really much of anything that can hurt them or damage their bodies in any way, just might not agree with them at first. Good luck.

By this time the child is ready to eat table food. Food that is very small and smashed up. By 8mo by boy was NOT having anymore of the baby stuff he wanted what everyone else was eating. He was having green beans, peas, mashed potatoes, french fries. And he loved the teethers biscuits. As for meat he was having a little bit of meat, that was very small. Keep in mind that before there was baby food people made use of what they had. Like milk w/ crushed biscuits in it.

Hope this helps. Also just listen to your natural instincts.

I have two little boys. they are 2 & 3. my oldest was very picky, but he was eating table food by 10 mths. my youngest weighed almost 10 lbs when he was born and he is a very healthy eater. he was on whole milk at 7 mths because he didnt get full on formula. he never even ate baby food he went straight to table food. things like mashed potatoes, green beans, peas and carrots are good. fruits like bananas and peaches kids really like. they both ate those gerber puffs and loved them. use your own judgement on what to feed him. just steer clear of peanut butter. children that age tend to get choked on it. i still wont let mine have it. you can email me if you like ____@____.com.

Not giving your baby meat doesn't have to hinder his variety. Try mixing up the veggies and fruits, make sure you are switching them out a lot, so he isn't having the same thing all the time. Gerber offers an amazing variety of foods. They also have little puddings, custard, and desserts for a little treat here and there.

But that's all I can really offer, is to suggest just changing up the things that you are feeding him. I used to feed my daughter oatmeal or cereal in the morning, mostly fruit for lunch, and then two veggies for dinner. Now she will eat almost anything because I offerred lots of stuff, and if she didn't like it, I didn't push it, but I would offer it again later on.

I agree with most of the advice. I would like to add: be careful with leafy greens - my kids got diarrhea & diaper rash with them. Egg yolks are a good source of protein - the whites are possible allergens. Other potential allergens are strawberries, chocolate and peanuts. Avocado is another great mushy food (just don't curl your lip as you feed it to the baby!).

By 10 months my boys were eating it all. If it werent health we would all be dead. Some things have to be chopped or diced. Our parent didnt have a date or time or schedule on what when could eat or when we could eat it. If he likes it give it to him. I fould that the best person to ask these questions were my mom and grandmother cause they done something right raising us. Good luck

No meat until a year??? Really? Was your son full term, no major health issues, etc? The usual I have heard for eating meats is about 8 months. My son started eating baby food meat around then... now he is pretty much eating table food. For breakfast he usually eats yogurt or diced up fruit -- we did cereal for a long time but figured he was tired of it! Then lunch and dinner is usually diced up veggies, unsweetened applesauce, something like that. He doesn't get a lot of meat lately just because we haven't been doing a lot of cooking but I have given him really finely cut up or shredded chicken or whatever other meat we are eating. Do you think he is ready for more table foods? Some first suggestions for that are to cook and mash sweet potatoes or give unsweetened applesauce. If he can pick food up with his fingers he may be ready for little chunks of vegetables (cut up green beans, diced carrots, or something like that).

Your son sounds like he is eating fine. You can however give him what you are eating. My son was eating steak, chicken, ground beef, etc. when he was that age. You just have to cut it up really good. The doctor always told me to make sure i cut it about the size of the tip of my pinky. You can also get the gerber graduates. They have meat stick things that come in jars. They also have other meals that he can practice feeding himself with. I hope some of this helps you.

I think your on the right track. Just keep a veriaty of fruits and veggies. Remember you may be getting bored with the same things but, he only knows what you have given him and it sounds like a good balance.I introduced sweets too soon to my last child who is now four and that is all he wants.

I don't think a 10 month old knows better to want variety, unless he is trying to grap food off your plate. So don't worry too much about the variety.
He is getting his nutrition from the formula, the food introductin is so that his body can learn to digest foods, when he is no longer a drinking formula. But introduce slowly and only one item a week! And be careful of those foods that can cause a reaction like peanuts, strawberries, eggs, etc. Hold those till the end, but I agree at 10 months you can start intorducing bland meat.
