Weird Question: Can I Use a Tea Ball to Make a Single Cup of Coffee?

We use a percolator to make pots of coffee in the morning. But every once in awhile myself or my husband might want a single cup of coffee. Lately my husband has been wanting a cup in the evening, but doesn't want to mess the coffee pot.

So my question is, can you use a tea ball to make a single cup of coffee? It seems like you should be able to. We do not have one, or I would just try it. I am thinking of getting him one, and if I could hold off long enough, stuff it in his stocking (we'll see about that!)

Or, do any of you have a good way to make a good cup of coffee.... without using a singles bag (I said good cup) ;)

THANKS so much!
K.

Funny, he has mentioned getting a french press. Actually, he told me to get him one! I guess I felt like it would still be a system with components to wash, which is what we were trying to avoid. But I think I'll at least look into it.

THANKS so much, ladies!

What can I do next?

I make single cups of good coffee using a drip system. You can get a cone and filters for single or two cup coffee. Melitta is one brand. I found my cone and filters at a grocery store. I bought the single cup size first but found it didn't work easily for a mug. The two cup size is perfect.

We use a french press for multiple cups of coffee. It's still a hassle for just one cup. You end up having to clean the pot, while with a one or two cup drip system you only throw away the filter.

A fine mesh tea ball in the shape of a spoon which would work for this purpose I think. Otherwise, the Melitta system is designed for this very thing. My dad uses it for camping for instance.

Hmmmm. Rather than a tea ball, I'd suggest an infusing basket. It would allow for free circulation of the grounds - a better cup of coffee.

*Really*, I like the other's suggestion to use a French Press. They come in many different sizes, including a single serving. A French Press, when used properly, will make an excellent cup of coffee.

Either way, your cup will contain more caffeine than drip or percolator (if ratio of coffee to water remains consistent), so be aware of that ;-)

I think most people who want this type of thing get a french press. I saw them at target and they are pretty cheap. I think you have somethng to put in your husbands stocking now.

not really, tea has a looser filtering need, the grains are larger. get a single plastic holder for 1 cup and a bag of single use filters.

I use the Melitta one cup thing all the time for my coffee. I'm the only one in my house who drinks it, so it's not worth it to use the electric coffee maker. I love it! Here's a link:

French press, the coffee will be bitter before you extract enough out of a tea ball.

My best friends mother ALWAYS makes coffee one cup at a time. She has a plastic filter holder thing basically like the filter part of a coffee maker... but made to sit on top of a mug... kind of like a citrus juicer.

Anyway, you just put in the paper filter, add a scoop or coffee grounds, pour hot water through it and voila!

Have you looked at a machine that makes one cup at a time. We use a Keurig, and it's great. If you buy the little basket for it, you can spoon coffee in it yourself, and not have to buy the pre-made ones.

I have a Keurig and I LOVE it. I don't drink enough coffee to justify making a whole pot.
