We finally found a house that we liked and weren't beat out by someone on a contract! Yay! The funny thing is that we haven't mentioned moving at all to our almost four year old daughter. I haven't said a word (and neither has my husband) about moving. We don't want to say anything until it is 100 percent definite, or we will hear about it forever. :) Yet today, she comes in and is moving her books around, I ask her what she is doing and she tells me, "I'm packing all of my books." And she was, she was putting them in an old card board box. When I asked her why, she didn't really answer me, just said she wanted too.
Is that weird or what? Any of you have anything like that happen? Maybe she is psychic! :) lol
I know she has probably heard us talking about the new house and all, I am sure she is aware something is up. I just thought it was funny that she started talking about packing up. We've moved once before but she was just little over a year old. We haven't put anything in boxes yet or anything like that. So it seems odd that she put the two together on her own. Just made me chuckle, that's all. :)
Kids overhear, intuit, and understand a lot more than we give them credit for. But then again, buy her a Ouija board and see if she can give you the lottery numbers!
You would be surprised at how much children pick up on conversations they overhear from parents, etc. Don't underestimate what she "knows" because she can hear parts of conversations you have with your hubby and others and she can put 2 and 2 together.
She's probably not psychic, just a very intuituve child.
Not psychic, just shows how bad we are at keeping stuff from our kids. Kids are observers regardless of how little they appear to observe. After all they are trying to make sense of our world.
Please don't take this the wrong way but I may tuck this story away for the next person who thinks they are keeping a bad marriage secret from their small children.
Kids figure out things far more than we give them credit for. I'm sure that she knows exactly what is going on with your moving.
If she does happen to be psychic, I guess you'll find that out eventually!

If you and your husband have been talking at all, she picked it up. We just don't realize how aware our children are. :)
She's not psychic, she overheard something. Kids are so incredibly intuitive. My kids still surprise me on that front, I can never truly keep anything from them.

the problem with kids' intuitive capabilities, which are far too often overlooked, is that kids really do know all the things that parents think they're keeping hidden. almost every parent who is having marriage or relationship issues is so sure they're keeping it all from the kids, but they just really aren't.

Little kids are like sponges. Its highly likely that you or your husband mentioned something and she heard you. She knows you are moving--- Kids watch everything you do and say even if you don't think she was listening.
She has heard you talking about it...I would talk to her about so that she knows....and answer any questions she may have.

We're in a similar situation right now. I am in the process of interviewing for a job in my hometown. My husband and I have told NO ONE except my parents and my boss (oh- and all of you) and we try to talk in "code", but 4 yr olds have great reasoning skills when they want to! The other night my son asked me where we keep the suitcases. I asked him why and he told me that he needs to pack his things to move to Grammy's house!
He talks about living near my parents ALL THE TIME, but he's never asked us about packing and moving, so I think he knows something is up. We'll see. I hope to be able to get those suitcases down out of the attic pretty soon!
I would look at it as a sign from GOD that everything is going to work out perfect! Good luck to you and your family - it's a very exciting time for you all!
