I am turning 50 in November and it is also my anniversary the same day. I am looking for a weekend getaway for my husband and I. I would love somewhere with a spa, I really need to be pampered!!! I really want somewhere special (you only turn 50 once) but we are not big gamblers so AC is not big on my list. I am very low key. I would love a spa day, dinner, and a show. Any ideas would be appreciated. I was looking at some Pocono resorts but I haven't been since my honeymoon and they were dated back then LOL! Thanks in advance for all of your help.
Wow! Once again you have all come through! So many great suggestions. I am going to be busy making my decision. Thank you for all of your responses and well wishes. I'll let you know what I decide, and how it was. Thanks again!!!

Hi
I just did this for my 50th (with my daughter, mother, and sister-in-law). We went to the Inn at Norwich (CT) and it was great. The spa is beautiful and has lots of indulgent treatments. The food was delicious as well. The room we stayed in (a villa) was only OK - clearly needing some updating - but we spent so little time in the room that it didn't matter to us.

I have heard wonderful things about Woodloch Pines in the poconos. We actually had a trip booked there a couple of weeks ago but had to cancel since I went into preterm labor.

Hi D.,
While there usually isn't a show there, I highy recommend the Mohonk Mountain House. It's gorgeous, has a lot of fun activities both in the day and the evening. There is a spa there, but I've never used it. It's in New Paltz, NY.
Where ever you choose, have a wonderful time celebrating these two great occasions!

I don't know where you live, but the first place that comes to mind is Mohonk Mountain House, in New Paltz, NY. It is a sprawling, stately beautiful resort in the Shawangunk mountains, about 2 hours north of NYC... they have many outdoor things to do, a terrific spa, and it is in a college town so there may be a show or cultural event for you to attend also...
I am also turning 50 in a few weeks and this is where I would go for a weekend with my hubby if that was what I wanted to do!

We love Cove Haven in the Poconos. There is a show every night that on the weekend includes a band & a comedian. We go every year or so and there have continally made upgrades. YOu can get spa treatments - ie. massages -m We never have so I am not sure of the cost.
If you are just really interested in a spa like atmosphere, I would look elsewhere.
If you do want to check out Cove Haven here is the link

Whatever you decide, enjoy.

Hi D.!
Happy 50th and Happy Anniversary!
Your right you only turn 50 once! Im forwarding you a link of a place my husband and I stayed. It was AMAZING!!! We had so much fun. Its a themed hotel in New Hampshire. You have to check out the website. The rooms are insane! We rented the movie themed room and were able to watch DVDs from our jacuzzi! Not only are the rooms incredible but the town is one of those romantic towns. With mountain views and tiny shops. I believe they even have a spa nearby that you could book a massage or facial at =0)
Hi D.,
A few years ago my husband and I had a weekend getaway. We went to Redbank NJ. The town is really quaint, we went to the Milagrospa (http://www.milagrospa.com/) and had a couples massage. The spa was great. Then we had dinner at the Melting Pot it is a fondue restaurant.
Good Luck
Enjoy.

I am not sure how far you want to go but my husband and I go to Maine every summer with the kids and love it. There is a beautiful hotel/spa in kennebunkport that comes highly recommended from friends that we are wanting to try out. This time of year kennebunkport is filled with holiday activities, lots of antiques and crafts and decorations, art studios and in ogunquit (10 min drive) there is a playhouse theather with shows daily. Let me know if you are interested and I will get the name of the hotel. Happy birthday!

Cranwell Resort in Lnox MA. Stay in the Mansion. The other rooms are nice but not as special for a celebratory weekend. Great restaurants at the resort and in the area.
THe spa is great with an indoor pool. Wonderful walking tours and biking. There are live performances in the area towns.
If you want to go for the really big bucks try Canyon Ranch also in Lenox. It is a full service spa all inclusive, indoor pool and tennis and lots of outdoor stuff. If you have any energy after a day there you can go 'off campus' to a performance.
Both offer specials...so ask a lot of questions.
Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary

It sounds like you want something in driving distance. The Mayflower in CT is wonderful, but often is booked well in advance. We went there a month before our wedding. Kind of a get away from wedding planning vacation.... Beautiful there and wonderful restaurant. There is also a spa, which I understand has been upgraded since I went.... Although there won't be a show there.... I guess for that, you'd probably want to go into NYC!! And of course, there are hundreds of nice hotels in NYC with spas and near Times Square.

My husband and I stayed at the Crescent Lodge and Country Inn (www.crescentlodge.com) in the Poconos about a year ago when we needed a weekend getaway and I would highly recommend it. They have private cabins and while it is no spa resort, we liked it because it was private and quiet (we stayed in the Mountain Jacuzzi cabin). I'm sure you could find a spa close by to go to during the day and somewhere for a show or entertainment at night. The food there was also great. Whatever you decide I hope you have a great time and get to relax... enjoy!

My husband and I went on our honeymoon on our first anniversary... we couldn't go immediately after our wedding due to work schedules. We went to Newport, RI for five days and I will tell you that it was absolutely fabulous. We went in August and planned on spending the days at the beach, but the weather wasn't cooperating. I'm actually glad that it didn't b/c we explored all that Newport had to offer...
- stayed in a b-n-b
- ate at beautiful restaurants with fresh seafood (The West Deck and the Black Pearl highly recommend)
- had lunch sitting on the beach sipping a Manhattan watching the boats go by at Castle Point resort
- took the ghost tour
- went to Mass at St. Mary's (Jackie and JFK got married there)
and generally lived the high-life for a week.
The best part- you can walk everywhere! I'd be happy to give you the names of the places we toured- the mansions are beautiful and they have "events" regularly- cocktails on the lawn, reinactments, etc.
Happy Birthday!

Congratulations! We love Cape May, NJ and have spent many weekends there together. Sleepy town (especially in the fall/winter) although there's always something to do - fantastic B&Bs, quaint shops, romantic carriage rides (you can arrange a private ride/tour through Cape May Carriage Company). Dinner at the Washington Inn (voted one of NJ's most romantic restaurants and the food is outstanding). There is also a spa in town and many of the B&Bs can arrange in-room massages for you and your husband. There's one B&B - the Wilbram mansion, I think - that has an indoor pool. Walks along the beach, antiques, historic house tours. Lots to do or do nothing. Watch a beautiful sunset at sunset beach, the southern most point of NJ where you can actually see the sun set over the ocean. Have a great time wherever you decide to go.

I know someone else mentioned it, but I have to reiterate, Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, NY. My husband took me there for my 40th birthday and planned a spa weekend. It was literally the most relaxing weekend I ever had in my life. We swam in the indoor pool (with music piped under the water), had spa treatments (which were phenomenal), ate gourmet food (the BEST), hiked, listened to live music by the fire and had a spectacular time. It is expensive, but I think worth every penny and ESPECIALLY on such a happy occasion as your 50th and your anniversary. A very Happy both! Congrats!

I know this is a little far for you, but I am going to suggest it anyway. We have always been big fans of Cape Cod during the off season. Rates are reasonable, things are quiet, and the traffic in non existent.
The Cape Codder Resort in Hyannis has a spa package, and although I have never stayed there myself, a friend of mine did and had only good things to say about it.
Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary! Hope you have a memorable weekend. ;)

I have never been here but have been told it is wonderful!
I read all your responses and had to add one of my own. I really love Skytop in Pa. It is smaller then Mohonk, but more resonable and I think more up to date. The rooms are roomier and nicer. i stayed at Mohonk recently and think it could use a makeover. The location is beautiful though. Skytop is just as nice I think the food is better and it is closer!
