Wedding Rings?

My son is now three months and I can not still wear my wedding ring. I am getting really sad because it was a very expensive ring that I have only worn for about 6 months and I would love to start wearing it again. Here is the problem... I still have about 25lbs to lose to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight but I don't know if I should just go ahead and get my ring sized or wait longer. Anybody ever had to deal with this.

What can I do next?

Hi K.. My husband is a jeweler downtown so I asked him. If you are planning on losing the weight, you should definately wait. You don't want to put any unneccessary stress on the ring by resizing it now, and then resizing again once you lose the weight. This could cause problems down the road with your ring/setting/etc. If you are not planning on losing the weight, then I would go ahead and resize!

I'm glad I'm not the ONLY one! I haven't been able to wear my ring since my second pregnancy (Feb 2005). It's a vintage platinum ring that I already had to resize when I first received it, so I hate to keep messing with it. I've toyed with resizing it for years (hubby thinks if I do it, I won't be as motivated to lose the weight). I can wear it, but it really needs to be one full size larger (I'm now an 8). But, I just bought a really pretty ring last week that I now wear on that finger. So, I'll just keep doing this until this weight comes off.

It took me a while but they are back on- and I lost the 25 lbs I gained... it took about a while but is well worth it.

I was not in your shoes for the extra weight but I definitely did have to wait a long time to wear my rings again. I did not think I was so bloated but apparently I was. I could always wear them but it hurt and the skin would get irritated a lot so it was not worth it. I lost all the weight last time right away but I also only gained about 10 lbs with my daughter because I was a whopping 210 when I conceived her. Just hang in there. I just ended up resizing them and wore them.

Funny you should ask this. I got my engagement ring in 2000 and my wedding ring in 2001. We got pregnant with our first child at the end of 2002 and was unable to wear my rings from the early part of 2003 until 2 months ago...for the same reason that you are talking about. While I only had 10 pounds to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight from my first child, it never seemed to get back to normal in my hands. After a year or so, we had started planning for our second child (despite the lack of weight loss) and I felt foolish getting them sized only for them to change again. So, I literally didn't wear them for 4 years.

We had our last little blessing in February and by August, I had enough. I took my rings to the jeweler and had them size as is and I am very grateful for having done so. They are gorgeous and I feel great wearing them. And I would be happy to have them re-sized again IF I lose the weight but I am not going to wait for it to happen any longer.

As for the jeweler, they charged me about $250 to size the two rings 1 1/2 sizes.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

I took mine off during my second pregnancy. It still doesn't fit a year after I gave birth. I put it on a chain and wear it around my neck. I'm also waiting to loose the weight...

I had to get mine cut off of me...so congrats on being smart enough to take them off before it was too late! When I got mine fixed, it was very costly, so I would suggest waiting so you don't have to get them sized twice. It will be good motivation.

I can wear my wedding ring, but I have to take it off every night because my hands still swell up during the day like they did when I was pregnant (my son is 19 months old now). I don't know what the deal is, my ring is loose in the morning but by bedtime I have to twist it to get it off. I've given up on wondering when this will end and just accepted it.
