DId you guys do this? Freeze your wedding cake topper and eat it on your first anniversary? The reason why I ask is because some friends just posted on Facebook that they did. My friends said she wrapped it really well, but I told her that my husband refused to do it. I could have cryogenically froze it and he still wouldn't have done it. In his words, "I don't like regular cake, why the hell would I eat year old cake." :) Gotta say, nine years later and we are still going strong sooooo...no harm, no foul?

LOL we did it...and the cake was NASTY after being in the freezer a year!! We have been married 22 years and we still laugh about how awful that cake was on our first anniversary!!
We didn't do this, I don't think we even had any cake left. But it can be done, but it has to be wrapped really well. You also have to be wary, because cake will absorb odors from other foods. And many cake places will now give you a complementary cake in the same flavor of your wedding cake on your anniversary.
We did. My FIL baked our wedding cake and decorated it too. He is a wonderful talented man. We wrapped it in lots of stuff and it was just as good when we took it out and let it thaw. We shared with some friends too. They said it was just as good.
I had mine in the freezer for about 4 years... we figured it would taste like freezer burn. I finally tossed it.
I did it, J.! It was still good! In fact, I felt that the flavors of the cake part were even better than I remembered. And I could take the time to enjoy the cake instead of during the reception (where I had cake stuck to my hand and had to ask someone to help me get it off! LOL!)
I'm 30 years strong in my marriage, but I'm sure that year old cake had nothing to do with it!! (So funny!)

I always suggest instead of freezing the whole top layer, to only save a nice sized slice, especially if it is. Really good cake. When stored properly, you can hardly tell it was frozen.
It takes up so much room to save the whole thing. So why waste it?
It took me a minute to catch on that you meant the top layer of a wedding cake and not the decorative "topper". I was thinking what a crazy tradition! So, regarding the top layer of my wedding cake, yes we ate it on our 1st anniversary. My mom had done a super duper job of wrapping it and it was delicious! And, I had given birth 12 days before our 1st anniversary, so there wasn't much else going on in the way of celebrating besides eating that cake!
We saved the top layer for our first anniversary. It was very special and romantic...and tasted great. No freezer burn, as it had been wrapped well. We fed each other the first piece, just like at our wedding. Anniversaries and rembrance rituals are very imprtant to us. Thanks for bringing back this special memory.
