Website for Sharing Pics and Videos

I'm looking for a website to share pictures and videos of our family with extended family members. I had been using a Shutterfly Share site but was only allowed to upload 10 videos. I burned through that rather quickly. I'm wondering if any of you know of a site that I could use - preferably free - that would help me keep out of state family members up-to-date but is not as public as Youtube or facebook.

I use google sites to publish mine: www.thebrockfamilyalbum.com

It's easy, free and we've gotten rave reviews from family. And there are no ads! Just use the youtube widget to put up videos (they need to be uploaded to youtube). Or you can embed video from whatever website you use as long as you know a little html.

dropshots.com - They allow 20 free videos. Then they charge 4.95 a month or you can pay a lifetime fee of 95.00 I think and then you don't ever have to pay again.

I would create a new facebook acct in the name of your family like "the jones family" and then only accept people who are related to you or very close friends, not everyone you know and then set your settings to the most private. this way you can share family details, photos and videos without telling everyone who is on your regular facebook like co-workers, friends of friends etc. Now that you got me thinking about this i might actually do it myself. I would like to put more details on my facebook for out of town family but don't want the whole world to know what we're up to. thanks for asking this question.

There is Flickr.com. It is associated with yahoo. I believe that one is set how you chose as far as privacy. It is free and doesn't have a limit for uploading. There is also a site called photobucket? I'm not too sure how that site operates, but I know it's free. I hope you find what you are looking for. Good luck!

What about starting a blog?

Also facebook doesn't have to be so public. Just add the family/friends you want and make everything private to those that aren't friends. (That's what I do.)

I upload my pictures on Facebook, you can restrict the album so only certain people can see the pictures. You can also send the link to someone who is not on Facebook.

i have been using flickr, and picasa is also another good place ive heard. i use picasa's photo editing program and its very nice.

but yeah, flickr is great. and remember, with everything, it is only as public as you want it to be. most places let you set privacy so only people you choose can see your stuff.

good luck!

Have you checked out tinypic.com ? I am not sure of the limit of pictures/videos, but it's worth looking into. Good luck, as I am in the same boat that you are.

I keep journals on my grandkids with pictures and video clips for free on blogspot.com. You can make it a private blog where it isn't in the directory and the family members will need the link to get there.

You should try www.babysites.com. You can create your own website for your kids or family and can upload video and audio clips in addition to your photos.

I use Kodak Gallery. You can up load a lot of pictures, I don't know of any limit. You can then share it with people via email invitation. Those people have the option to purchase copies thru the web site or Target.
I do have a Kodak camera, but I think you can use the site with any camera.

I do use You Tube because you can set your videos to 'private.' If your family signs up for You Tube accounts, then you can grant them access to the videos. I probably have 50+ videos uploaded, and I don't have to worry about strangers finding them.

I use Picasa and Facebook to share photos and videos. With Picasa I can set it up in such a way that people get an e-mail link to my pictures and only people who have this link will be able to access them. Another possibility would be to start your own website. There are many places that offer free url's and templates to get you started on your website.

I loved smugmug.com. I uploaded hundreds upon hundreds of photos after my daughters birth. Not free, but only $35 for one year.
