Has anyone ever done this? I've been on 20 mg for 8 months and I want to stop taking it. My doctor is aware as well. I've read feedback about the side affects and how people have felt going off it. I took 10mg's last night and i can already tell I feel a bit off. My daughter will be her dad the next few days so i thought it made sense to do this when I didn't have her in case I didn't feel good. Does anything help with the side affects?

What can I do next?

Let me tell you how NOT to do it. . . I was taking 20mg a day for a year and a half. I cut back to 10mg every other day for a couple of weeks then stopped. The following month was horrible. My problem was irritability. I was cranky verging on psycho. This literally went on for a month! Everything set me off, and with working full time and a 3 and 4 year old, life was hideous. I would ask your doctor and follow their recommendations exactly. Don't live the nightmare that I had!

I did Paxil cold turkey. It was miserable because the side effects hit me while I was flying to Florida in storms. I had never wanted to throw up so bad in my life!! After that two days of queasy and it was over.

My doctor was not happy but laughed at my ordeal. :p

I have tried to wean myself from a med and failed three times. Finally, I got the help of a professional and am almost done. It kept me accountable and we were able to adjust things to suit me. It was expensive, but I don't regret it. I am humbled as to how these chemicals can effect our bodies. I never would have believed it if someone told me. Good luck and I will keep you in my prayers, as I do all the moms on this site.

I have weaned off Celexa, and let me tell you it is MUCH easier then weanign off Effexor...never take that stuff! You have to slowly wean yourself off, im shocked your dr didnt tell you how. Take 20 mg every other day and 10 alternating. After 2 weeks cut down to 10 mg every day for two weeks, then do 10 mg and 5 mg alternating for 2 weeks. 5 mg for two weeks after 2 weeks cut down to 5 mg and 2.5 mg alternating for 2 weeks. As the dose get really small to cut at 2.5 crush and divide then add to OJ. NOT grapefruit! If you have ANY issues contact yoru dr ASAP!

I was on a cocktail of Celexa, Wellbutrin and an anti-psychotic.....Went cold turkey off all three...at the same time....because I had no other choice in the matter....If I could do it all over again.....I would fight to have been able to see my doctor and have her see me off of them slowly...but that was not my fate with the drugs.

Wean slowly. Like slowly start reducing the size of tablet by cutting it....The slower you wean the better it is for your brain and nervous system.

You just have to mentally know that there maybe some difference's in you mood....and try and control it as best you can.

Drink lots of water as well while tapering...That will help flush out your system.

Good luck! You will feel so much better NOT taking them:)

I worked with my doctor to do this. With her blessing, I used a food-based nutritional supplement to give me all the nutrients that we need but which unfortunately our food doesn't contain any more (depleted soils, and all the other factors that reduce the value of our food). I went off too quickly and we worked at using a half dose for quite a while. I am extremely consistent with my supplement product and that's essential. I also got lots of other benefits, like never getting sick anymore (no more bronchitis, no colds or flu, no allergies, and so on) and that really helps a lot with my mood.
