Weaning from the Bottle but Will Not Take Milk from a Sippy

I am trying to wean my twin 18 month olds from their bottles but they refuse to drink milk from a sippy cup, either one. I cut out half their bottles this past weekend so they get 2 a day (one after lunch and one before bed time) so they are getting about 16 oz of whole milk per day. Is that enough? I am wary of trying to take all bottles away since that is the only way I can seem to get milk into them. I have tried different sippies as well...the straw kind and the nozzle kind as well as the regular. I also have a 2.5 yr old so sitting down with them to try to get them to drink from a "big person" cup is just not feasible with how busy this household is. Any suggestions on how you got your toddler to drink milk from a sippy would be great. Perhaps I am just being impatient and they need a bit longer to get used to the idea, its only been 5 days...Thx K. H
Just editing my request a bit... They already take water and juice fine from a sippy, they just want the milk to be in their bottles, I do have one avent soft spout that I will try and see...

What can I do next?

There are some sippy cups called Nubby's you can find at walmart. They are very similar to a bottle (silicone)but might help transition to a sippy cup. It's worth a try.

Just wanted to say that you shouldn't worry about their milk intake at all. Calcium and fat are the things they get from milk that are essential for a well-rounded diet. If they get those things from other sources (e.g., cheese, yogurt, spinach, brocolli, etc.), milk is not necessary for their development. Milk is an easy way to get these nutrients, but not essential. During your transition period, up their intake of high calcium foods and you won't worry so much.

K.,

I have twin boys and I was getting pretty frustrated. They would look at the sippy cups, cry and throw them. I took one bottle away per week. It took a long time, but I knew it would eventually get better. Let me know if you have other questions. It is tough because they copy each other!

Nicky P.S. They are supposed to get between 16-24 ounces of milk per day, but don't worry during the transition.

My son did well with the Nubby's as well. The soft tip seems to help the transition. I think Avent also has soft tips. That was what my doctor recommended when we went to a sippy cup.

Will your girls drink water from a sippy? You may want to start getting them used to the sippy with water and then try the milk later. Just a thought. I know the transition can be tough but if you hold out long enough it seems to work out.

Good luck.
