We Need a New Dishwasher. What Do You Recommend?

I highly recommend either LG or Bosch. They are generally very quiet, have sanitizing abilities, and can offer both folding tines and adjustable upper racks. I know that Best Buy will do free installation on anything over $429.

Bosch. I love mine. It's so quiet I really can't hear it running. And I'm in my kitchen a lot so that's a good feature. I've had it for about 3 years.

I have a Kitchen Aid. LOVE it. I got the one with the stainless steel interior.... I strongly suggest that option if you can afford it. We spent about $1500 on ours.

We got ours from Best Buy a few years ago. They installed it and took the old one away. We paid for a all new hoses and I think we paid for installation. I prefer to pay a professional to install vs have a flooding disaster from some freebie.

I would purchase another Kitchen Aid in a heartbeat. I don't go with the cheapest models... I tend to go with the mid to high range models on all appliances, etc.

As far as dishwashers go, you get what you pay for. There are some out there for $150 and trust me you'll hear everything it does and when it does it.
Jump up to the $300-$400 range and things vastly improve.
Bosch makes great products. Any of the big name brands that we grew up with will be fine.
Installation charge should be minimal if your replacing one. If the house has never had a dishwasher, it's a little more tedious.

Bosch. Hands down. Does a a great job. Flexible rack/tine settings. QUIET!!! Reliable.

My biggest recommendation would be to get one with a stainless steel interior. My DH is a builder and uses different brands at different price points depending on the customer but the 1 thing that seems to make a huge difference with customer satisfaction regardless of brand, is the SS interior.

If you are budget conscious, he always says KitchenAid is a good performing, budget friendly choice.

I can't wait until my loud, ugly Maytag dies so I can get a Bosch. It's on it's last legs...

(I guess I can't really complain about the Maytag. It's lasted 12 years. It's just so loud. We can't have a decent conversation in the kitchen when it's on.)

Bosch. We have moved a few times in the past 10 years, and I've loved my Bosch dishwashers best of all. We have also experienced KitchenAid, Whirlpool, Kenmoore, and at least one other I can't recall at the moment. Anyhow, Bosch is the way to go, hands down. If you have even the most basic handyman (handywoman) skills, you can install it yourself. I promise it's not hard. :)

I was just researching this very thing a couple of weeks ago! Our dishwasher was leaking, and as a last-ditch effort before replacement we called in a repairman. So glad we did! Turned out to be a really simple repair.

Our appliance repairman is quite friendly and chatty while he works, so I took the opportunity to ask him what dishwasher brands he recommends. His favorites were Whirlpool, and Kitchen Aid (which is Whirlpool's higher end brand). He said that they're reliable, and when something does go wrong they're simple to repair. He said the worst was Samsung-- very difficult to find somebody who knows how to service them if something goes wrong.

Our current dishwasher is a Kitchen Aid with a stainless steel interior. It is close to 15 years old, and has now been serviced twice (the first time was a problem with the control panel, I think). I was sure it was a goner this time-- but it is working great again and I hope to get several more years out of it.

For whatever it's worth, the replacement dishwasher I had selected was a Bosch, which was highly recommended by Consumer Reports.

YES! I bought on three months ago and I LOVE it!! It is a Bosch and the model is Bosch Ascenta SHX3AR7[5]UC (I got it in black).

It was the best dishwasher rated by Consumer Reports that was less than $1100. I paid $670 for it from AJ Madison online.

It is super quiet and very very clean. One note is that it only appears to like powdered soap. The liquid soap I use does not clean anything. So I switched to those little 'pacs' by Seventh Generation and everything is spotless!

LG can be hard to find a repairman, if needed.
The brand is growing quicker than the guys can learn to fix them.

O. feature I used to have, and miss, is the time delay to start the wash cycle in 1, 2, 4 hours.

Another vote for Bosch. I love mine. They make a range of models in lots of price ranges. Ours was around $600, my parents got a cheaper model, very basic and they are very happy with theirs.

I've been pretty happy with my Kenmore. I don't need to rinse the dishes before I put them in, other than taking off the major chunks.

Whatever you get, get one with a disposal feature so you don't have to pre-rinse.

My mother-in-law has a Miele that is amazing. So quiet and the cycles aren't crazy long. It is expensive though. I have a Maytag that I loathe and cannot wait for it to break. But because I want it to break it will probably last forever LOL.
