I have a washer that won't drain or spin. I have done 3 loads today, with one still inside, and all of a sudden it won't drain....but it is turning to wash. I have called a couple of repair places, but they are not available until mid week to Friday May 2nd! Having an infant, toddler and pre-k, I just can't wait that long to wait for someone to repair it. Does anyone know of anyone who works on washers??
thank you in advance!

What can I do next?

It sounds like the lid switch (the little hole that stops the washer from spinning when you open during a spin cycle) has come loose or broken. Check and see if it's hanging down -- you may be able to insert a pen or screwdriver (something thin and long) and make it work manually to get the water out. Then you can probably rig it to work until you get it repaired.

Let me see if I can find a tutorial on it. Be back in a minute!

ETA: Okay, here are a couple of sites that aren't too terribly technical. One has video that may help explain what I was saying to do.

This happened to me & my husband worked on it for awhile to no avail. Finally my dad suggested that we may have a stuck sock. Sure enough, that's what was keeping my washer from draining. Here is the link to how we figured out what to do...

Some machines are bad about sucking a small sock into the pump. If the pump doesn't pump the water out it can't spin.
So look for the sock.
Also---if it is a Sears machine, you can get help from the service department by telephone. Yes! A real person will walk you thru the problem. That is,, of course, assuming they haven't changed the plan recently. Give it a try!!!
