Any Tricks of the Trade on Stubborn Washing Machines?

My washing machine broke on me last night. It will not "spin" or drain. It's just full of water. First off, how do I get this water out? And secondly, know any tricks to make it work again (besides buying a new one!)? And for entertainment value, I'd like to mention that I have started Cloth Diapering this week....ironic! This is soooo life! :)

What can I do next?

I have a story that will make you feel better, my washing machine one evening while I was out with the g/f's and hubby was at home doing the laundry, he had a full load in water to the top and the hose from behind came off, well it was like a river water was everywhere. He cleaned up the mess all by his self.

So I get home later that night of coarse he tells me all about it, then brags what a good repair he is.. ( smiles ) I hear him yelling SOB I don't believe it, yep it did it again , all fifty gallons of water everywhere. So I help him keep quiet the whole time.

Next day.. he trys to fix it again, this time he has the heavy duty claps.. ( this ought to do it.. ) smiles...
I hear omg &*^&$$&*(&_)**&&($$&&*)*((*)(*)+)*7 smiles I knew it was going to bust again.. ( sings knew it )

two days pass because he doesn't want to deal with it, so I go pick up the right parts, he goes to play in his darts tourney, I wait they tackle the washer.. Miss's smartee pants fixes the washer, so she thinks because she does two loads of laundry, just when the third load fills and hubby walks right in the door from his night out, Guess what Happen !!!!

This time we laughed so hard we both ended up soaking wet, on the floor. So with in 7 days we had mopped up almost 3,000 gallons of water. ( Do you feel better yet !! )

Here is the number to my applience repair man he is fast and cheep. OO if you choose to call him he doesn't speak english very good but does understand it, he also sells refurbished washers & dryers for a excellent price.

To get the water out try good ole fashioned baleing. Get a bowl or pitcher (whatever fits in the washer) and start! Then call a repairperson. Growing up my mom's washers did this several times (i think in my memory she has gone thru at least 4 washers in about 20 yrs!!). My dad, who is not handy at all, would attempt to 'fix' them and always make it worse. So unless you or your hubby are handy i wouldn't try, i got lucky and married a handy guy! Good luck and find your nearest laundry mat for now, we all know no one can go very long with out a washer! : )

First take out clothes and wring out in bath tub. Bail water out of washer with a mug.

Two possibilities. When the washer has been overloaded (I tried to wash sleeping bag) newer models (1990's etc.) have plastic teeth like parts that will break rather than burning up your motor. That's the cheapest possibility.
Could also be motor. This requires pulling the washer out, Taking off the cover -- there's screws at the top, likely under plastic covers. Then you tip the washer over and replace the motor --- LIKELY you'll need a repair service --- not cheap, but should be cheaper than a new washer (depending on age of machine).

This happened to me a month ago or so...with exception of the cloth diapers. I had a full load and it just stopped. My husband disconnected the hose (very carfully as the water will come out) and we just dumped it in a bucket...for the last one just good old cups. We shopped around to buy a new one when my MIL gave me a number to a repairman it cost me $80 to fix it and now it is working perfectly. I have the number at home so I will get that for you later today.

Such is life my dear. Sucks doesn't it?

I had issues with my washer a couple years ago. Check and make sure that it's not something simple like the "lid closed sensor" (not the technical term but that's what I call it) isn't loose. You know what I mean, the thing that clicks when the lid closes right. To fix that, just tighten the screws (or nuts or whatever) on the insides of the lid. Also check to make sure there isn't something blocking the drain line.

My washer would kick in sometimes if I hit it with my hip hard enough to rock the machine. If all else fails, kick it scream at it and swear at it. It might not fix the machine, but it'll make you feel better!

Google "My XXXXXX washing machine wont drain" and you'll get plenty of advice on how to fix it from repair men that posts answers online.
I have fixed my washing machine 3 times this way..cheap, and way easier than wait for a guy to show up sometime between 8 and 1
