My son is almost 6 months old and my question for anyone out there is that my son is sick again and throwing up everything that is in his body, and then proceeds to dry heave for a good hour to two after there is nothing left in his stomach, what is worring us is that this is the third time that he is sick in 1 month span. He has no fever and this just all of a sudden come out of the blue. The doctor's keep saying its just a bug but with no fever and him doing this for a third time in less than a month is worrisom. On the last two occasions after we make him suffer through the night cause we cant feed him and give him a couple of ounces of pedialyte ever 2 or 3 hours he is always fine the next day and can eat normal. Could he really be getting a virus every week or couple of weeks for the last month, and he does not go to daycare and is around no one who has been sick.

What can I do next?

That is odd. Have you been giving him any foods? Could it be a reaction to a new food or his formula? Does he have any other symptoms? To me it also seems unlikely that he would be getting a virus each week...he has just done it once/week? I would maybe start charting exactly how much he's eating and when he eats to see if there are any patterns. If you have given him any new foods stop giving them to him and then reintroduce them slowly and one at a time. If it continues and you see no other symptoms, etc. I would maybe get a second opinion.

J.,
Has your son's ped look in your son's ears? My now 12 yr old son used to have periods of vomiting during the night but fine during the day. His ped decided to check his ears for possible ear infections. That's what it was. Apparently, my son had an ear infection but no fever or other symptoms, just the vomiting. The ped said it had to do with equilibrium. This happened a lot. A lot in the medical community would not believe me when I said he no fever but that I thought he had an ear infection. Even after he was seen, I would be told that I must have read the thermometer wrong. We did finally find a ped who believed us and our son. Just a thought. Good luck.

sounds like you need a new pediatrician. My first thought was something in his digestive tract, a torsion or something.

You didn't mention whether your son is breastfed or uses formula. If he is on formula, then you may just need to switch to a different one. If you change the formula and he still has the same problem then you may need to consult a GI specialist. My son had to see one until he was about a 18 months old. Whatever the problem is, you need to get to the bottom of it. If your gut tells you that there is more to it than what the pediatrician says then you need to act on it. Doctors can make mistakes just as easily as the rest of us. They are human too and are not perfect. It would be better for you to look silly than for a doctor down the line to say "if only the parents had sought help sooner". I learned the hard way that I needed to put my child's health before insulting a doctor by questioning a diagnosis.

get a second opinion that doesnt sound like a virus to me. it might be possible its a food allergy keep a diary and see if something he eats is triggering it. but definately get a second opinion.

I would get a second opinion. That's just too much within a month's time! I'm sure anything is possible, and maybe he has gotten 3 stomach viruses in a month, but I would have someone else take a look at him.

Trust your instincts! If you are worried about him, get a second opinion. I think I would be a little worried about it happening several times in one month.

reflux, celiac disease, lactose intolerance, food allergies....please see another physician for help in finding the cause of your son's vomitting (poor thing). I'm sure you are frustrated and good for you with trusting your intincts. There are great docs out there so ask your friends where they take their children. Good luck with everything.

Have you fed the baby anything that could cause food poisoning?? This happened to the child of a friend of mine. After months of the dr. saying it was a virus, a test was finally done, that showed the child had food poisoning.

Go see a different doctor. How is his bowel function? You could be dealing with an allergy or worse. Get him checked, he is too young for these kind of symptons.
