Hello Everyone.
I am asking for help once again. Like every mom i feel quite worried when my baby is sick and want to help him as much as i can. My son is 2 years old now. It started last week on friday i noticed he was running a small fever and saying that his tummy hurts. All night he was waking up crying and saying tummy hurts and then going back to sleep. Daycare called me on friday and said that he didnt eat much and had a small fever. I had to go and get him and scheduled a doctor's appointment for Saturday. And that night he was waking up again crying and then he threw up. My husband took him to the doctor that morning, the doctor said that he has a mild ear infection and it is causing all of that, gave us antibiotics. We didnt get antibiotics, thinking it could worsen his stomach condition up. He doesn't complain about his ears hurting and i am not sure how it can make his stomach hurt so much. I thouhgt it was a bug and will go away soon. Today is tuesday, yesterday he had a good day at daycare, ate good, but at night it all started again: he had a fever, crying, complaining about his stomach and saying that he wants to poop, he would poop a little bit and it would be liquid. I gave him tylalon to keep his temperature down and relieve the pain. Now i am very worried. It has been happening every night now (he hasn't threw up since friday, but his stomach still hurts). What is going on? is it really just an ear infection? Or is it a bug? could it be a food poisoning? something he might have eaten at daycare. I don't know what to do or give him to sooth his pain at night.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Ok. I think i should have put that here before i got judged . My boy had 5 ear infections this winter! When he got his first one the doctor gave the antibiotics and we gave them to him. All it did is messed up his stomach gave him stomach ahces. He wasn't complaining about his ears for 2 days! and on the 3 day he had a fever of 104 and we took him to the emergency and they said that he has an ear infection and gave him another set of antibiotics ( a little stronger as they said). He went through another course of antibiotics. And as soon as he was done with that, he got another ear infection. I was very tired from sleepless nights. He was crying from horrible pains. and when i went to the pharmacy to find something that i can put in his ear to sooth the pain, and the pharmacist told me to give him the tylonol. I went to every pharmasy and they didnt have anything. really? and they call themselves pharmacy. I finally with tears on my eyes went to the health food store and they helped us so much more than anyone at that point. i got silver dropps, and ear dropps and vitamins ( i didnt have to get all of that but i wanted to help my baby). I started putting silver in his ears, rubbing camphor oil around the ears. the ear infection went away without it coming back. I post on here hoping people will share their experiences.

Try PB8.

ANTIbitoics, according to medical research, INCREASE the risk of another ear infection by 33%. Try a PRObiotic. PB8 works like a charm.

I am concerned that you are ignoring the treatment of your child's doctor and turning to us for medical help. If you don't trust your doctor you need to find another one and now.

YES an ear infection CAN cause vomiting, nausea and other symptoms. Pressure in the middle ear can cause these things.

So please follow his doctors orders and get his prescription filled and treat him immediately.

A lot of times if you leave an ear infection go untreated, it get can get much worse. So best just to do what the doctor tells you.

Hope your son feels better soon!

I would definitely give him the anti-biotics.
Some people battle ear infections for a very long time.
Do anything and all you can to soothe him in addition to giving him the
antibiotics.
Does he drink milk? Make sure he's not lactose intolerant to boot.
Make sure he has some water to drink.
Food poisoning would not last this long.
Again, I think i would give him the antibiotics. Give him all of your loving attention right now to help him get through this. It will pass soon!

Dear N.,

I was going to tell you to get a second opinion from another pediatrician based upon your original post but then I read the so what happened where you already had another opinion from an ER. Really, I understand people not giving an antibiotic for a virus - but ear infections can be either viral or bacterial. My son (18 months) battled an ear infection for almost 6 months.

Food poisoning doesn't usually last longer than 24 hours. It isn't something he ate at daycare unless he eats the same thing there daily and he is allergic to it (but I seriously doubt it.)

Give him the medicine as prescribed or find a homeopathic doctor and follow that doctor's treatment plan. Doing nothing is causing your poor son more pain and may damage his hearing long term. Children in daycare are more prone to ear infections than other children. It is life...both my children have survived it though.

Give your child the treatment the doctor recommended. Buy some yogurt to help with the tummy upsets.

Do not ignore the medication he needs for his ear infection. If his eardrum ruptures you could cause permanent damage to his hearing. And it'd be YOUR fault for ignoring the doctor's treatment plan.

I agree with those who say to give him the antibiotic! (Your little guy is absolutely adorable, by the way :) )
