Vitamin Overdose?

I gave my 2 year old a flinstones vitamin today for the first time. It is the one without iron. That was around 1pm. My husband then gave him his liquid supplement of vitamin a and d at bedtime. He forgot that I told him not to give it. Could this cause toxicity? He takes the liquid supplement because he doesn't drink milk. This particular flintstones is for children age 2 to 3. It says one per day. I know there is another one that is for 4 and up. The is called my first flintstones without iron.
Thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I did call poison control to be safe. She said it was fine, but just don't give any vitamins the next day. Thanks to everyone who responded. I also appreciate the information on flintstones. I had no idea they weren't a good vitamin. My husband and I both took them as children. It is scary how many products on the market have been around for years and aren't very good.

He should be fine. Once my son got into a bottle and when I called poison control they asked me to count how many he could have had. It was about 4 or so and they said that would be ok. Vitamin A would be the only one you would have to worry about b/c that can be toxic if you have too much. you could always call the poison control if you want to be sure.

I think he will be ok. Vitamin toxicity comes from repeated overdosing. If it sets your mind at ease, call poison control.

Since it is only one dose, only one time, I think he will be just fine. Think of it like eating three bowls of cereal with 100% RDA for several vitamins in a single serving. It is more than you need, but your body can handle it.
I'm sure you will both be extra careful now, so don't worry. You could always make a chart to mark off when he has been given the vitamins so there is never any question.

Iron is usually cause of overdose, so he should be fine.
But I can't help but comment about Flintstones vitamins. I had been giving them to my son before I knew how bad they were. Bake one in the oven for about ten minutes and you will be shocked. They are a very poor choice. It is so unfortunate that we cannot trust manufacturers to make a decent product when it impacts a child's (or anyone's) health.

Hi Laur,

He should be fine with a one time occurance. Like mentioned before, vitamin toxicity comes from repeated overdosing.

Just my two cents but all vitamins are not created equal. OK, I'm going to say something that will upset some of the mothers here but...Flintstone vitamins are a low quality vitamin and I believe that makes them dangerous. They "contain" the vitamins listed but they are not made to absorb. When vitamins don't absorb, free radical activity can begin. Free radicals cause disease. If you want to supplement your little one's diet it would be better to continue shopping.

Hope this helps...

Gob bless,

M.

Not sure call the pharmacist/doctor or poison control.

At 2 only give 1/2 of a flinstone. They can't have a whole one until 4.
