Have you been a recruiter before? Have you not worked in 10 years for an outside company?

As you well know, working from home is WORK. I don't know if you have children but no one will pay you to work from home and watch your children.

Most people who do work from home are employed by a company and have already proven their self motivation, self discipline and work ethic so the employer knows the work will be done. If those employees have children, the children are in childcare or there is a sitter at the home caring for them while you work.

Others like myself who work from home... we own our own company in plastics and manufacturing brokering/consulting and you bet I am busting my butt working because I am working for my own family with my husband.

There is NO way I could do my job with children. One mistake and I could lose thousands of $$$. My daughter is 18 and she shadows me now so that she learns about business and how to successfully run one.

If you are good with HR/administration, I suggest you talk to some of the temporary agencies in your area. Many companies hire their regular employees from the temp pool. Why? If is a perfect chance for you to see if you like the job and the company fits you well and the company gets a feel for you and how well you fit with the job and the company. When I was in Corporate Snack Food Marketing for a major company out of college, we hired all administration from the temp pool.

Temporary would be my first go to if I were looking for a job. Secondly, what else are you good at? Focus on your talents and turn them into your money earner. Teach, tutor, babysit, sell things you don't need online, etc.

Of course you will be hit up by the MLM/direct sales/pyramids on here for recruitment on their teams. If you choose that route be sure you read the very fine print and understand what you are getting into with potential investments, selling, party obligations, and recruiting. MLM is not for everyone.... many people (everyone I am associated with) steer clear of it because we don't need or want to be more involved with parties and buying what we don't want or need out of obligation to someone.

Best wishes to you!

I am the staffing manager/recruiter for my company. I work from home.

Working from home as a recruiter was something I built up to. I built up my pipeline, I built up a trust with my boss.

Most companies will have you in the office first - so they know your face, your work ethic, etc. I am sure you can check out http://hiremymom.com/ they have positions open. Yes, I believe you pay a fee for their service - I have not personally used it.

Just remember when working from home - YOU ARE WORKING!! there is this strong misconception about being able to play, take care of the kids, etc. I'm not paying you to watch your kids. I am paying you to find strong candidates for positions for our clients. So make sure you have child care taken care of and a place - office or workspace - dedicated to your job. Unlike an office job - you NEVER leave your work unless you walk out the front door.

I have a dedicated office. A dedicated phone line and fax machine as well as a printer and scanner with a computer and a lap top. You have to show you have the capability of WORKING from home.

Good luck!!

My SIL has been a recruiter for over 15 years. She works from home, but put in a solid 5-6 years with the company before that was an option. She also is one of their top recruiters. And, when she had young children, she had to prove she was paying a nanny because they wanted her work time to be just that--work time. Good Luck:)

If you now have your immigration issues settled and are looking for work from home as a recruiter, then I would:

make sure your resume is well-written, describing your previous experience
post the resume on one or two resume posting sites (SHRM or other)
contact local temporary staffing companies - both those who recruit recruiters, and those who recruit temp staff

I would suggest being up front about your wish to work from home.
