I woke up this morning feeling very light headed. This has happened several times in the past week, but then i eat something i feel better. And sometimes during the day i get this feeling, but again I eat something and i feel better right away, so i figured it was just maybe low blood sugar. This morning, i got up feeling that way, i ate, and it's been about 1 1/2 hours since i ate and i am still feeling that way. My doctor's office isn't open yet, so i thought I would see if any other mom's have gone through this, and any suggestions you might have. I do plan on calling the doctor. i had it on my list of questions to ask when i go for my appt next week, but knowing I am like this still after eating, I want to talk to them anyways.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, I see the doctor tomorrow so i will have to wait until then to find out anything more. They haven't been in the office, and when I called today, they said, since i am schedule already, that i can wait until then. But they said if it gets worse, or I feel like I CAN"T wait, to get a hold of them again. But I figured I have waited all weekend, another day won't hurt at all.

I had a similar issue with my both of my pregnancies....but it typically occured when I either A) didn't drink enough water or B) accidently laid on my back while later in pregnancy. Be sure to get enough fluids...I learned never to be without a bottle of water...and be sure to eat small meals on a frequent basis. It is a good idea to speak with your doc....in case something else is going on.

Good luck!

How far are you? They maybe need to check your iron. I am low on my iron and they keep asking me if i get lightheaded. I never have light headedness on this pregnancy but all the others i did. This is the first I have had to take a iron supplement Ask the dr to check it.

S.,
It could be a blood pressure issue, I some Moms have responded with low blood pressure, but the lightheadedness/dizziness could also be a high blood pressure issue. I teach HypnoBirthing childbirth education and there is a part in my class that we caution moms to be over active with questions, never can ask your Dr. too many. Peace of mind and relaxation is key for you, so get any question of problems out of the way.

If it is iron, a good supplement is liquid called Floradix, you can get it at Whole Foods or stores like that. Also to make sure that you assimilate the iron, take it with Vit C., or drink with Orange Juice.

Congrats on your pregnancy, I am sure all will go well,
J.

Make sure they check you for anemia at your next appointment. I had that with both of my pregnancies and an iron supplement stopped it. I would black out after standing up and be dizzy and lightheaded all the time.... it's definitely worth checking out. Good luck!

It does sound like low blood sugars. But I think it would be wise to let your doctor know what it is going on.

I find that if I eat high protein foods, or low glycemic foods, this helps with my blood sugar. You don't have to be a diabetic to have that light head feeling. It is your body telling you it needs fuel. Since you have a little person in your body, it is even more important to make sure you've eaten.

Maybe eat a little something about 1/2 hour before you go to bed. A piece of whole wheat toast with a little peanut butter, is a suggestion. Also, a good vegetable protein is always a great addition to the diet.

Hope everything goes well for you.

I got dizzy when I didn't eat enough, didn't drink enough, was anemic and once when my blood pressure went up higher than normal for whatever reason.

Good morning. I had the same thing happen to me during my last pregnancy. It turns out I was anemic, so my midwife had me start taking extra iron (I took Slow FE - easier on the stomach!!) in addition to my prenatal vitamin. I almost always felt lightheaded in the morning or soon after eating (especially breakfast). Maybe just in case up the iron in your diet? You could try spinach, red meat, etc. I did both and it totally helped. It also helped with my feelings of fatigue (that I didn't really realize I was feeling until after it was better ;-) ). Good luck!!

Drink lots of water and/or Gatorade. You could possibly be a little dehydrated. Also, try not to wait so long between eating. Eat a small meal every 2-3 hours instead of just 3 times a day. You don't say how far along you are... if it's early on it takes a LOT of food to start a baby! It could be really mild morning sickness (which happens ALL day not just in the morning). Try keeping some Saltines and/or juice on hand for something quick to hold you off until you can eat something more substantial.

Please don't be afraid to call the doctor's office and ask the nurse about it! If it's something more than just MS, you'll want to know right away so you can do something about it quickly!

Good luck! :)
