We have been to Las Vegas twice before and love going. This will be our third trip, going in October, so we are kinda familiar with the strip area. Last time, 3 years ago, we stayed at Treasure Island and LOVED it, but would like to stay somewhere else, just to experience another area and casino, etc. We are not huge gamblers, just love to see the sights and wander the strip. We DO want a motel on the strip so we don't have to rent a car. What I am wondering, where did you stay when you went and give me the pros and cons! So far, TI is still about the most affordable as well, there beds and rooms were awesome and the casino was great too, so if we don't hear of anything better with about the same price range, we will stay there again. Thanks for your input! Let me know how long ago you stayed, where you stayed in vegas and why you loved or hated it! Thanks!!

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for the input! Keep em coming! Love hearing about the different motels, esp the ones with details about why you loved them or hated them. Someone asked what 'affordable" was, we are doing a package deal with airfare and the treasure island deal is about $1100, and that is for a suite room, so would like to keep it around that. Center of the strip would be awesome too! Treasure Island was a bit far down the end, but it was so nice. Thanks again everyone!

What's "affordable"?

We're staying at the Flamingo out there next week at $60/room. It's been renovated, but it's not fancy. The MGM Grand has rooms at the same rate, and they're renovated room are beautiful!

Then, there's the Contemporary and the Aria, which start at $250/night. BEAUTIFUL hotels. More of an experience.

Really, anything on the strip will be nice. They all have to keep up with each other in order to be competitive.

LOVED!!! LOVED!! LOVED!!! Planet Hollywood - especially getting a suite on the strip side and being able to watch the Bellagio fountains....

You are right across the street from City Center and a ton of things to do!!!

I wouldn't stay at the Luxor again - pain in the rear - elevators only go to certain floors and then you have get off and go to another set - only certain elevators go to certain parts of the hotel so you may have to walk clear across the hotel to get to the elevator you need...

HAVE FUN!!

I personally love New York New York...so much to see and do right in that hotel as far as price goes. We've stayed at Excalibur and the price was right and the hotel was nice too.

I went October 08 and stayed at the Signature at MGM grand. It is just behind the MGM and is connected to the strip through walkways and such. So not right on the strip as TI is but it is still on the strip. This hotel actually doesnt have its own Casino so its much quieter and doesnt have the crazy Vegas feel but like I said you are 'right on' the strip and are still attached to the MGM so you have that casino just a walking distance away. They were fantastic there and I would definitely go back again. Not sure what the price difference is or would be comparing the two but if its in your price range I highly recommend it
Have fun

We always stay at MGM (Not the Signature at MGM, stayed there once, bad bad). We love it. It has a lazy river, which is awesome during the day. The casino is on the 4 corners. It links with Tropicana (great cheap comedy), New York, NY, and the Monte Carlo. The Monterail stops there and there is a shuttle to amazing shopping. :)

The Paris is a very nice hotel. It's great because it connects you with Bally's and you have the cross walks over to the Bellagio and Cesar's. The Paris has a nice, small casino and a pretty good pool.
Recently we have started staying at the other end of the strip - at the Mandalay Bay. You are close to the Luxor, MGM and New York,New York, but you do have to walk a little bit. I LOVE the casino and the pool at Mandalay Bay.
My husband and I have been to Vegas quite a bit. We go to gamble and love to check out the restaurants. We have our favorites, but always try out a new one or two. But I can only take about three nights in Vegas and then I'm done - especially if my luck is not so great at the tables.
I'm currently 8 months pregnant so I'm missing out on my Vegas trips this year - so if you go - put 10 on black for the pregnant lady!!!
Have fun.

We love Paris due to it's location. I love being in the middle of the strip. The Mirage & The Venitian are very nice as well. We've also stayed at NY, NY, MGM and Mandlyn Bay but you are stuck then down on the towards the end of the strip. I don't recommed the Tropicana, Excalaber or Circus Cirus. Those hotels are total dives in my opinion.

Have a great trip!!! We are going it the fall and staying at either the Wynn or Cosmopolitan. We can't decide.

What about Fremont Street? I've stayed in the New Strip (Excalibur), and Fremont Street (the Four Queens), and they're both very different experiences worth checking out. What kind of Vegas are you looking for? Old, or new? Fremont Street is where most of what's left of the old neon is, and the older hotels and casinos (think World Series of Poker, instead of theme casino), and has a more intimate feel. The neon museum is there, and don't forget the Freemont Street Experience - the whole street is covered with a canopy, that is lit with a nightly light show (http://www.vegasexperience.com). (Even if you don't stay on Fremont, it's worth it to check it out one night.) And if you want to get to the strip, Vegas has a fantastic public transportation system that is inexpensive.

I have stayed at the sahara (nov '98, and they are about to tear it down), the venetian (mar '10), the mirage (3 or 4 years ago) and the bellagio (2-3 times a year for the last 4 years). I love the bellagio. There is so much to do and see and it is in a great location. I have also heard that planet hollywood is nice but i have never stayed there. there are so many good deals all the time. I would just do some research and see which one tickles your fancy.

good luck and have fun!!

The Treasure Island is a great hotel but a little far at the end of the strip. I like the Monte Carlo or the Venetian. US Airways had a great speicial this spring with a free show. I will be happy to look for the best prices in October for you. There is no charge for my services. Please feel free to call me ###-###-####.

Love Vegas. We book a 2bedroom suite at Mandalay Bay, stay during Christmas for a week (7 days to be exact). We usually see all exhibits in hotels, go on personalized hummer trips to Grand Canyon, The Dam, to the Hualape (spelling it wrong) Village, then to a Ranch in Arizona...was a wonderful hummer guide its all day 7am to 5pm was totally worth the $300, our teen loved it. We also try to see 2 or 3 shows; go to candy factories. We also did a lot of shopping in the Bellagio. Loved a few of the buffets, but not the one at Mandalay ick! was expensive without a lot of options to us. We went to CircusCircus for the rides, but it was so noisy that we left and went to go ride other rides & coasters at other hotels. Oh yeah, we even renewed in vows in vegas in 2007 was wonderful; we had the greatest Elvis impersantor walk me down the aisle and sing to us with an acoustic guitar. He wore an awesome Gold suit and me in my Royal Purple Dress and Husband in matching Royal purple top was so fun. Overall our hotel stay at Manadalay Bay 2bedroom suite runs $5,500 total trip with all shows, tours and exhibits a little under $8k. We love vegas.

I've stayed at TI, Bellagio, and The Venetian. TI is the least expensive, but the oldest. The good thing about Vegas is there is so much to do, that you only are in your room for sleeping. If cost is a big concern, I'd stick with TI, but if you just want to experience something different, just pick another one. They all have their good and bad. Bellagio was super nice, but super expensive. It's been 7 years since I was at The Venetian. I don't remember what it was like cost-wise. I did like the room there. They are all suites. I think part of the fun of Vegas is to try out other hotels. Make a list of all of the ones in a similar price range as TI and just close your eyes and pick one! Have fun!

We love Vegas! We have stayed at Cesars Palace, Planet Hollywood, The Encore (Wynn's new tower), Paris and Pallazzo(venetians new tower). Pallazo is by far, hands down, the best in luxury. I think Cesars is a good location. I think the rooms at Paris are small. I have never stayed at belagio, but my in-laws love it. Have a great trip!
