Has anyone had a VBac after 2 C-Sections? I will ask my dr at my next appt in a few weeks but I wondered if this had been successful for anyone out there? Maybe its on a person by person basis.

What can I do next?

If you had a bikini cut it is very possible. If you have the inside cut straight up on the uterus it's more of a no go situation. If the doctor says no look for another doctor and ask around to find out if there are any who do VBACS.
VBacs are common in some cities and impossible to get in others. Sometimes women go elsewhere just so the can have a vaginal birth.

Yes it is very possible. In fact, depending upon the reasons for your c-sections (you can get your operating reports for the official reasons), it is safer to do a trial of labor (TOL) than a planned repeat c-section.

Please contact your local ICAN chapter (International Cesarean Awareness Network) for support and help in finding supportive providers. VBA2C is more common in some areas than in others. You can find a ton of research on kmom's website here:

I would contact ICAN and start doing your research before speaking with your doctor, particularly if your doctor did your first two c-sections.

Oh, and those who said insurance wouldn't cover it - your medical insurance will cover it if they cover birth! The insurance company can't deny you coverage for using your vagina. If you had planned a c-section but didn't make it to the hospital in time (already crowning) it would be covered. Some doctors will tell you that their malpractice insurance won't cover VBAC but that is a big warning sign that you don't want to birth with them. Some hospitals say that their insurance doesn't allow VBAC - again - it is a policy issue and you want to steer clear if you can.

Please feel free to message me directly if you have any trouble contacting the ICAN leaders. Best wishes, C.

I know that you CAN have a VBAC after 2 cesareans... I'd recommend calling some of your local Birthing Center and HomeBirthing Midwives, as well as look into your area's ICAN chapter.

www.ican-online.org

They have many resources and can definitely help with referrals.

***ADDED***
I am a Nurse (for the last 14 months) and have spent the last 5.5 years researching Midwifery, Home/Birthing center births etc because I had a traumatic intervention induced, failed induction cesarean.

I am having #2 - hopefully by this weekend at HOME with a Midwife, for a VBAC. Less interventions, a more comfortable, calming and sanitary environment, less people sticking their hands up your vagina and lack of narcotics - - not to mention the freedom to move around as your body needs to for labor - is ideal, and very normal in most other developed nations (of course their cesarean rates are less than half of ours... but the situations are similar).

Having worked in hospitals, doing extra clinicals in an OB hospital... I wouldn't choose to ever give birth in one unless it was a life or death situation, in which Midwives are TRAINED to understand & precipitate these situations and transfer care to a back up OB or hospital.

I had a VBAC after one and am done with birthing now (not because of the experience, just have the number of kids we want). Many people can do a VBAC so long as their incision is the usual bikini cut and not longitudinal. The biggest thing is you cannot be given hormones to help the labor start or progress but if the baby is willing to guide the hormones and your body follows along it should not be an issue. I would also not even consider a VBAC in a home environment as things can go bad more quickly with a VBAC than a nonVBAC birth. I also understand it is easier if your C sections were not done after a whole lot of labor but I would not swear that is a hard and fast rule. I am glad I went with a VBAC because my recovery was much easier that way

My mom had a Vbac after 2 C sections in 1989. Both her c sections were bikini cut. The first was an emergency and the next c section was planned. Oddly it was the Dr. who talked her into a Vbac and she wished that she never would have done it. Although she did not mourn the loss of a vaginal birth like some mommies do. I also delivered C section and I too don't feel the mourning of the natural way. If I have another I'm totally fine with the C section, but my friend is delivering next week vbac after 1 c section.

But to answer your question... she did it successfully and without complications. Good luck in whatever you decide... the important thing of course is a healthy baby and a healthy mommy! :-)

you can do a vbac after 2 c-sections. doctors will try to steer you away from it because there is a risk of uteran rupture during pushing- and the doctors usually seem to enjoy lots of interventions ($$$). Do lots of research online and talk to dualas, midwives, and any women with that experience. The lady with 19 kids (on TV) has had a bunch of kids vaginally and other c-section.

Best wishes-

You need to first:
- See if your Doctor will do it.
- See, if your Insurance will cover it. Some will not.
- See, if the hospital you deliver at, will allow it.

Once you have those answers, then you can evaluate and decide, with your Doctor, what is best, for you and the possible outcomes.

I have had 2 c-sections. I decided not to have a VBAC with my 2nd.

My doc did VBACs a lot when she was delivering at Research in KC. However, now she delivers at different hospitals and they aren't set up in a way that is conducive to handle it if something goes wrong and you have to be rushed to OR. So she no longer does them. And I don't know that she would do it after 2. What I've heard is that most docs won't let you try after 2 because of the risks. But your doc should be able to recommend one that would be willing to talk about it if she won't. Mine had some to suggest for me. Best of luck!

Sure, you can. Depending on where you live, it could be very difficult finding a Dr. and hospital willing. Also, most insurances will not cover a VBAC after 2 c-sections. I know a few people who have, but they had to do a home birth or birthing center birth. They could not find a Dr., place to deliver, or their insurance would not cover it.

You real question, was had someone been successful. Yes, I've known people who have been successful!! They just had to do it their own way.

I have a friend who did this sucessfully, but she had to push back hard against the doctors who did not want to even talk about her trying it.

You will have to look hard for a doctor or midwife who is on board but it is possible. I tried for a VBAC with a midwife in a hospital (second baby) and got almost to the point of pushing. I had an emergency c-section because the cord was around the baby's neck (had nothing to do with it being a VBAC). If you want to try do your research and see if it is for you.
