Any suggestions on a vacuum. I need one with a bag as my family has asthma and allergies. Doesn't have to be one that will last a life time, just at least 5 years maybe….

Thanks

What can I do next?

I've had my Oreck for more than 8 years, and love it! It is even light enough that my kids can use it. The extra expense IS worth it on this one! Also, it came with a long warranty (8 years) and the Oreck Store will service it every year for nothing. If you stop by the store, they let you try them out. (There's an Oreck Store on Power Road & just north of Southern, just a little bit north of Superstition Springs Mall. They are very helpful & friendly there!)

I love my Dyson DC40. It's expensive. Something like $500. We bought it at Sears. I have bad allergies and that's what my doctor recommended.

I'm not sure what the difference is between ones with a bag or canister, but we have 2 Dysons, and they both work really well. They pick up a LOT of dirt and dust that our previous vacuums did not. It's almost disgusting the first time you use a Dyson - I had a Bissell before, and I had to empty the canister 3 times. :-/ My dad has pretty severe asthma, and has not had any problems visiting our home or staying here overnight since I've used the Dysons.

I LOVE my Hoover from Costco. It has filters that you wash, a cansiter to empty, I always had dust fly out the bag ones and this doens't do that! It also has a cord rewind which I think is the coolest thing ever. I looked at the Dysons, but reviews said they wear out your carpet and they are really expensive. Its such a hard decision, but if you get one from Costco and don't like it, or the allergies bother you from it, then you can always take it back, and Iove that feature.

I have a Bissell that has a washable HEPA filter... it is bagless, and there are a couple of different filters that you wash on a regular basis... just rinse them off in the sink. We all have problems with allergies, and my daughter has the same vacuum, and she also has asthma.

The HEPA filters can be expensive to replace, so it is nice to have one that is washable.

LOVE my Dyson Animal. Have had it for more than 6 years. Works great. Has a washable filter. SUCKS up everything.

Actually I would imagine bagless would be better for asthma and allergies. My husband has both and we have no issues with our vacuum. I have a cordless shark. It was cheap, and it's simple. It has terrific suction. (It will pick up small toys.) And it comes apart easily for cleaning. I also own a shark steam mop. They're a wonderful brand. Anything by them would probably do the job great. And some have hepa filters for air quality.
