I reccommend Dyson for vacuum . I've been using mine for almost 3 years and it really doesn't clogged. It's a bit expensive but it's really worth it especially with kids around the house.

I saw a demo of the Rainbow and I loved it! Can't afford to buy it yet, but I liked the idea that the filter is water, so everything is shot thru it and out the other end..... which just seems like it's got to be better than the Dyson. However, I tried my neighbors Dyson and liked it because it handled better than the Rainbow. I was hoping that before I have the money to buy a new vaccum that Dyson and Rainbow would merge to make the ULTIMATE vaccum.

Hi K.,

I recently read in Consumers Report that the Eureka-the Boss is the best vacuum for its price. They tested several different companies at all different price levels. My sister has this vacuum and loves it. When we are in the market for a new vacuum this will be the one we buy.

A little about me:

I have a Rainbow vacuum that I absolutely LOVE. It usually a water pan instead of bags and everything goes into that pan. You would not believe the stuff it picks up. Then you just empty the pan of dirty water. The only problem is it is VERY expensive. I also have a cannister vacuum from Sears for my upstairs that I love. It was only about 200$ but EASY to use and to empty and works well. Hope this helps

K., please, let me know when you found something about it. I am very interested in that!
IN my opion Rainbow is the best because the dust goes in water and not stored in bags. My husband thinks that Curby is better. Please, let me know what you find. Allergies is my concern as well.

Do take heed that although the bagless ones may seem appealing...they are absolutely DISGUSTING... I have had TWO and they are both just gross.... when you empty them the dust flies EVERYWHERE... and you have to replace the filters more often since there isn't a bag TO filter it. If you want the trash canister to stay clean like on the commercial... you'll have to wash it out after every use... I'd trade my 400 bagless vacuum in for a bagged one any day!

I have a dison (sp?) and absolutely LOVE IT! We have a dog and a cat and they both shed a lot and it picks up all of the hair. It also has a special filter on it that helps with allergies. My husband has allergies and they got a lot better after we bought the dison! Hope this helps! Oh, we have the cheapest one...it's yellow, but I hear that they all work.

If you can afford it, I'd recommend a central vacuum system for your home. The large canister is in the garage and then they put the piping in your walls. Then you just plug your hose into the wall and go. Nothing to drag around, no cords to plug in, suction is AWESOME, and changing the filter, maybe every six monthes, and its a very easy clean change. For a smaller home (mine was 1700 sq ft) it was $1700 for the whole installation and vacuum parts. Worth every dime and terrific for re-sale of your home.

Dyson is the best! They run like $500, but it is worth it especially with an allergy issue. You can go to their website www.dyson.com.

Get a Dyson. THey are worth every single penny. Basically, each model (07, 17, ball) is the same but have differenty attachments. For example, the purple dyson 07 is exactly the same as the yellow dyson 07 except that it comes with different attachments. I bought my purple (animal) 07 on ebay a couple of years back with free shipping for $399 and it normally sells for nearly $500. They are expensive but worth every single cent!

I have a Kenmore bagless cannister-style with a Hepa filter...and I LOVE it! It was a lot less expensive than some of the top-end vacuums, but it's MUCH better than a Dirt Devel, or Hoover. Kenmore has a whole line to check out at Sears. Mine was about $300 and I've had it about 3-4 years. It still works great.

After reading your post yesterday I was reminded how bad our vacuum was. It inspired me to go shopping :) I ended up getting a Hoover Fusion on a recommendation from a friend. I LOVE it. You should see the junk that came out of what I thought was clean carpet. It also outperforms Dyson in tests by 13%, according to tests done that simulate real world conditions. (I guess ome of the other vacuums that claim these things do their tests in closed conditions, not real world conditions.) Anyways....if a Dyson is not in your price range, and for me it wasnt, try this one out. It was $99 at Walmart.

I agree with getting a Dyson, but I have to piont out stereotypical criticism for bagless is really not an issue if you use some common sense. You don't need to buy special filters for a dyson. Mine came with two that are reusuable. I wash them in warm soapy water and rinse them out between emptying the canister.
As for the dust "flying" everywhere there are logical ways to deal with it. I empty my dyson into a small draw string trash bag with the bag cinched about the canister then let it sit a couple of miniuts before removing it (tap the trap door closed before you let it sit). You can also keep a water bottle handy to mist dust clouds with. Misting makes dust settle quickly.
I also rinse my canister in the sink with soap and water after I have emptied it.
I'm not even a neat/clean freak and I can manage the dust aspect.
